In a field historically dominated by men, Robiar Smith is boldly forging her way to the summit, establishing a lasting business legacy, and catalyzing economic growth within her community and the surrounding areas.
Photographyby:CharanIngram DressedinSergioHudsonEffectively juggling two rapidly ascending companies, Robiar isn't just making waves; she's scripting history with every stride Conversations with her reveal an innate passion for the industry and an unshakeable devotion to her family
ISmith is boldly forging her way to the summit, establishing a lasting business legacy, and catalyzing economic growth within her community and the surrounding areas. Unconventionally, it was not she who chose pest control; rather, pest control chose her! With unwavering dedication, she is revolutionizing the pest management sector, simultaneously steering a flourishing pest control service, and inaugurating a communitybased pest control retail store. Not stopping there, she has now taken a leap into the realm of product innovation, introducing her very own line of pest solution products!
The inaugural product from her brainchild, R.B. Premium Products, is Bug Strike—an environmentally friendly insecticide targeting a diverse range of insects. The reverberations of this innovation have reached far and wide, with major retailers clamoring to feature this groundbreaking product on their shelves. Yet Bug Strike is merely the inception of Robiar's ambitious product line. Her creative gears are ceaselessly turning, currently crafting a skin repellent, a natural rodent deterrent, and an array of other solutions designed to tackle household pest problems head-on. With this, she beckons us to stay tuned as she continues to blaze a trail of unprecedented success, etching her name in the annals of history.
Robiar's journey to her present acclaim began with the pursuit of three degrees and her immersion in the corporate sphere. Little did she know that these experiences were meticulously molding her for her destiny—steering a multimillion-dollar enterprise.
Embedded within the name R B Pest Solutions, the letter "B" stands as an homage to her parents, Michael and Dolores Recognizing their absence of sons, Robiar is determined to perpetuate her parents' legacy through her enterprise Her tireless work ethic and ingenious business strategies are a tribute that will endure across generations The teachings of her parents are invaluable—the foundation upon which Robiar's journey has been built Dolores, Robiar's mother, introduced her father to the world of extermination, in turn, he illuminated the path for his daughter—a young African American woman from Chicago's south side—unveiling the essence of entrepreneurship This lineage passed down lessons of forging one's own path, breathing life into dreams, and creating a legacy for both kin and community
Robiar's achievements have already earned her a noteworthy spotlight, featuring on platforms such as Fox 32, Chicago PD Fire, NBC, WGN, and Good Day Chicago, among others And in tandem with her ascent, her sartorial choices are as impactful as her accomplishments. The unveiling of her remarkable product line was accompanied by her adorned in Sergio Hudson designs—an emblematic figure in the world of black fashion, renowned for dressing influential women like Michelle Obama, Keke Palmer, and Savannah James
Robiar Smith's narrative is one of audacity, vision, and persistence. As she propels her pest management venture to greater heights, she stands not only as an exemplar of triumph over adversity but also as a beacon of empowerment for her community and aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere.Photographyby:CharanIngram DressedinSergioHudson

You see, I almost let my one track mind keep me from multiple streams of income. I nearly let having no background in finance make me feel like the role wasn't for me. I was very close to allowing my passion to keep me from a phenomenal way to fund my passion
Within 3 hours, I made $1,600 dollars (via zoom) and that was all that I needed to see to get started as an agent. I took off from there:
Year 1: Made $80,000 on a parttime basis.
Year 2: Became a full-service Financial Broker
Year 3: Opened my own branch office.
The moral to the story is this ... if your ultimate goal is financial freedom , be open to the many ways that will lead to financial freedom , especially the ways that will get you there faster! Don’t be so fixated on one way that you completely ignore an opportunity that can speed up your ultimate goal by 20 years It is baffling to me that the opportunity I had been avoiding for months was the very opportunity that completely changed my family’s life and has me on track to retire by the age of 45
With that being said, I am excited to pay it forward. I take pleasure in showing others how to obtain the highest paid licenses in the country and build a big business/generate passive income using them On average, my agents make about $500 an hour so it not only buys their time back but allows them to keep the safety and security of their full-time job Many of us have the drive to do great things, but are missing 2 vital components; the right mentor and the right vehicle I am here to bridge that gap

When Jena accepted an executive position at WineDirect almost a decade ago, she celebrated a personal achievement. But she also pledged that when the time was right, she would apply her expertise to advance diversity in the wine industry. That is when UrbanVino was conceived.
At WineDirect, the leading provider of e-commerce platform services in the wine industry, Jena played a pivotal role in driving a seismic shift in the wine market. WineDirect would become a catalytic force in direct-toconsumer sales, a market transformation that has empowered small-lot producers and artisanal winemakers to avoid the expense and risk of traditional wholesale/retail channels, appealing instead directly to consumers online.
During Jena’s tenure, WineDirect has grown from a start-up to over $100 million in sales and now delivers e-commerce and fulfillment services to well over a thousand wineries, becoming the industry leader by a wide margin. Jena works with some of the world’s most prestigious wine portfolios across the United States and has developed a keen understanding of the unique challenges for wineries, large and small, in building successful brands and profitable businesses.
In her role as Wine Direct’s Senior Vice President of Sales, Jena now uses her platform for outreach to wine professionals & creators of color, bringing exposure and guidance to the best of small cult, boutique, and celebrity labels. It seems the time has arrived for Jena to fulfill that pledge made all those years ago. With a passion for mentorship and personal development to go with her unique industry acumen, she is perfectly positioned for her new mission. UrbanVino will be a core outlet for this initiative.
In her downtime, Jena enjoys reading, dancing, traveling, and finding beauty in everyday simplicity. She is a proud mama to 3 adult children. She has a Global Executive MBA from Trium which makes her an Alumnus of HEC France, London School of Economics, and NYU Stern. You can get to know her through her podcast, The UrbanVino Experiences.
TeQuila Shabazz's, the Founder/CEO of Qui Virtual Support Solutions sat with us to discuss her incredible journey from teen mom to being recognized by Forbes as an entrepreneur to watch Her story is one that speaks of empowerment, innovation, transformation and unyielding determination Hailing from the vibrant city of Chicago and the western suburbs, Shabazz's story is a testament to her unwavering commitment to uplifting communities and redefining the boundaries of success
Amidst the challenges of her upbringing, Shabazz's relentless determination shone through, driving her to excel in her studies At just 16 years old, motherhood became an unexpected chapter in her life, a challenge she confronted with grace and strength Dropping out of high school during her senior year was a temporary detour; Shabazz's unwavering spirit led her to earn her GED the very next day
Enrolling in Roosevelt University, Shabazz furthered her education by immersing herself in Public Administration and Organizational Leadership Equipped with knowledge and resilience, she entered the corporate world, making a mark in Sales and Operations roles for esteemed companies like Ameritech, PBS, and Tribune Media Group These 15 years within the corporate landscape were a prelude to her grand vision a vision that transcended conventional boundaries
In 2011, Shabazz embarked on a transformative path, stepping away from the comfort of corporate life to establish BRIJ, a social enterprise that celebrated Black individuals, institutions, organizations and businesses and their profound contributions to their communities Through initiatives like "Give Black," a three-season web series, and the enlightening "Neo Green Book," Shabazz's mission of empowerment resonated on a larger scale So much so, she became known as The General This move marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey, a period that tested her resolve and determination
After 7 years, Shabazz was broke, burned out, and emotionally drained, causing her to make the difficult decision to reevaluate her path Returning to the corporate world for 90 days, she absorbed valuable insights that would later shape her approach to entrepreneurship She also knew from her work with BRIJ that her business wasn't the only one facing significant hurdles; many Black-owned businesses were struggling This realization sparked a fire within her to create meaningful change, not just within her own enterprise, but for small businesses that were marginalized After a few months, her entrepreneurial spirit reignited, and she embarked on her most ambitious venture yet Qui Virtual Support Solutions, a haven for high-quality Virtual Associates that support entrepreneus and executiveswith their backoffice operations Armed with the hard-earned lessons from her previous ventures, she approached Qui with newfound clarity
This time, Shabazz was determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past. She meticulously crafted a purpose, developed a clear plan, established streamlined processes, and surrounded herself with a team of individuals who shared her vision.
This multifaceted approach solidified Shabazz's identity as a Social Entrepreneur, bridging profit with purpose-driven ventures. Qui stands as a strategic partner for virtual assistants and business clients alike, offering an innovative concept that empowers independent workers and the businesses they serve. Qui's model enables collaborative shaping of working arrangements, fostering innovation and autonomy.
Within Qui's ecosystem, a vibrant community emerged an embodiment of Shabazz's aspiration for the support she wished she had during her own entrepreneurial beginnings Shabazz has recruited more than 150 Virtual Assistants and served over 200 businesses to date. Just as she did with BRIJ, Shabazz formed a community within Qui that provides advocacy, management, professional development, and staffing solutions. This empowered network embodied Shabazz's vision a vision that nurtures leaders redefining freedom on their own terms while building a legacy.
Notably, Shabazz's leadership has propelled Qui to a 7figure business, a testament to her strategic acumen and dedication Yet, her vision reaches even further With an unyielding desire, Shabazz aims to build the largest global ecosystem of independent workers, redefining the world of work and fostering empowerment on an unprecedented scale.
Beyond her entrepreneurial ventures, Shabazz's reach extends as a Philanthropist, an in-demand Business Development and Leadership Coach and Consultant. This role empowers others with her insights and strategies for success Amidst her professional feats, Shabazz takes pride in being a wife and mother of two daughters, bridging a nearly 30-year age gap a testament to the diverse tapestry of her life
TeQuila Shabazz's journey is an embodiment of resilience, innovation, and the unwavering pursuit of empowerment
Her narrative serves as a reminder that challenges can be transformed into stepping stones, and that each individual has the power to forge their own path, regardless of circumstances As she paves the way forward, leading Qui to new heights, Shabazz's light shines as a guide for aspiring entrepreneurs, illuminating the path toward transformation and meaningful change
Q: What inspired you to start your business:
A: Honestly, it was a tragedy that led to the start of my business. MsPsGFree Inc. emerged as a tribute to my late mother and a symbol of resilience and dedication. I never knew my maternal grandmother since she passed away when I was a toddler. My mother passed away at the age of 60, my dad passed at 42, and in 2018, I lost my middle sister Venita to a heart attack, she was 51. I feel called and equipped to change the trajectory of our family, to begin to raise entrepreneurs, build confidence and to create generational wealth for our future. I want to see my grandchildren's children.
These devastating losses were a personal health awakening for me and also a pivotal revelation.
After visiting the doctor to review my own health issues which included acid reflux and digestive woes, I embarked on a journey to eliminate fruits, vegetables, and dairy from my diet. This unexpected dietary shift spurred curiosity and led me to a training session, where a fellow classmate introduced me to the concept of gluten-free living.
It was uncharted territory and a notion that was alien to me until then. It was so hard to find gluten-free snack options that I liked - that actually tasted good to me. So I took matters into my own hands. I meticulously refined recipes, adapting them to the gluten-free paradigm, and our inaugural creation, the Cookie Bar, was born. They became so popular with my colleagues at the federal prison they started referring to them as "crack" bars, because they were addictive.
Today, our focus is a combination of delectable granola offerings, each brimming with organic ingredients designed to fuel, nourish, and invigorate. Our journey is to encourage and support clean and healthy living – an embodiment of our commitment to fostering vitality, movement, and longevity.
Q: What has been your biggest obstacle?
A: Being a first-generation entrepreneur is a journey I stumbled into It was uncharted waters for sure I had very little knowledge of how to move a business from an idea, to a concept, to a product I needed to learn all of the aspects of business development from retail, certifications, moneymanagement, marketing, cash flow to budgeting It has been nothing short of a miracle that has allowed me and MsPsGFree Inc to grow to where we are today Our biggest obstacle to date is raising capital We’re growing into more retail spaces We went from having products in one Whole Foods Market to three, then to fifteen and now we are in all the Chicagoland locations We recently secured placement in all Chicagoland Mariano’s locations as well We are selling more products, online on our ecommerce site, Amazon and conducting live vendor events that include in-store demonstrations.
Q: How does your company's presence resonate with its customers and impact their lives?
A: Our mission is to provide delicious, nutritious, and healthy Granola which promotes movement and longevity MsP’s contains no added processed sugars, is sweetened with honey and organic liquid stevia We also utilize organic gluten-free oats (glyphosate free), organic flax and chia, organic spices, as well as organic coconut oil That means our products are delicious, heart healthy and keeps you full and satisfied all at the same time We make our products in our commercial kitchen facility by hand in small batches Our goal is to be the go-to brand for healthy snacks We want to assist and cheer on our customers and consumers as they make better choices for their lives that begin with what they decide to snack on Food is such an important aspect of our lives and we want to be that guide as people discover what is possible for our health, life and family to improve daily by our eating and snacking choices
Q: What’s your favorite part of business ownership?
A: The hard work that we’ve put in over the last seven years is finally gaining some momentum. It feels good to see progress and to check off some goals that were made. We’ve been blessed to receive a number of awards and grants including but not limited to the 2022 Lightbox Grant from The Maclyn Group, 2022 BMO Winning Women Grant, 2023 Nextdoor Kind Foundation – Keep it local grant, and we’re one of the small businesses to receive a portion of the 2023 BeyGOOD Foundation Grant.
Q: Trying new things especially snacks can be met with hesitation. How do you encourage people to try glutenfree granola?
A: Most initial hesitation is centered solely around taste. MsP’s gluten-free granola is not your average hard scratchy tasteless granola chalked full of sugar. We offer moist, delicious, flavorful granola that is good to you and good for you. Our products have no added processed sugars, no genetically modified ingredients, natural sweeteners, and many organic good-for-you ingredients. This is premium granola for foodies, those needing gluten-free to be delicious and healthy, or those wanting to eat cleaner We truly have something for everyone
Q: Tell us about your products
A: MsPsGFree snack foods are hand-made, in our commercial kitchen in Shorewood, IL We create each batch by hand, stirring in all the deliciousness when the dry ingredients are mixed with the wet ingredients and baked to perfection We then mix the dehydrated fruit into each batch, bag them and seal them When orders come in via email we sort each order, prepare them for delivery and currently deliver to each location

What’s your secret sauce to being successful?
I am here to dispel generational curses of early death, departure and dependence and to free my family from generations of poverty. Every single day, I recognize and acknowledge our namesake, our shero and mom – Mrs. Youlas Patterson-Brown and work tirelessly to have her legacy carry on for generations. I live to show my grandchildren that all things are possible. We can grow from nothing to something with pure grit, determination, and prayer because all things are possible. Tenacity, action, and a never give up attitude is the stuff that makes up MsPsGFree Inc, and we are asking our community to join us as we scale.

Photo cred: Carl AnkrumTaking control of your life often begins with the simple act of saying "no". This two-letter word holds immense power, allowing you to dictate what happens in your life, when it happens, and how it happens
By consciously choosing what to include on your "yes" list, you can regain control over your life This could mean declining to loan money when it's not a good time for you, refusing to take on another project, or even saying no to small favors when asked
The power of "no" extends beyond just controlling your actions; it also influences your mindset Viewing "no" as a positive affirmation for yourself can be a game-changer. It can serve as a confidence booster, a time manager, and a source of energy Even when you're on the receiving end of a "no", it's important to remember that it's not always negative. Perhaps that job wasn't right for you at this time, or there were aspects of it that wouldn't have suited you Use these instances as motivation to change how you perceive and respond to "no".
When you hear "no", instead of dwelling on the rejection, consider why it was said
Understanding the reasons behind the "no" can help you accept it better and prevent you from internalizing it negatively If you find it hard to say "no", practice it Convince yourself that you deserve to say "no" and that it doesn't require justification Remember, your "no" doesn't come with a counteroffer, so don't let others challenge your decision
Saying "no" can also boost your confidence It's an affirmation that you matter most, and it empowers you It helps you see yourself as stronger, not weakened by the guilt that often accompanies saying "no". Moreover, saying "no" brings peace Instead of spending days agonizing over whether to say yes or no, find your peace by simply saying "no".
Additionally, saying "no" frees up your time and energy
Instead of trying to juggle multiple commitments, choose the one that benefits you the most and decline the rest This gives you time for yourself and saves you from the anxiety of trying to fulfill commitments you don't have time for.
Despite its negative connotations, saying "no" isn't necessarily a bad thing
Whether it's a job rejection or an unspoken "no" at work, these instances shouldn't deter us from using this powerful word We often hesitate to say "no" because we don't want to make others feel bad, but in doing so, we sacrifice ourselves. It's crucial to remember that we don't need anyone's permission to live our best lives, and sometimes, that starts with saying "no"

Often, we find ourselves dismissing the ideas and thoughts that come to us in our quiet moments. We may think, "I can't do that," or "someone else is already doing that." This self-sabotage prevents us from pursuing our dreams. Our thoughts have the power to either propel us forward or hold us back. It's crucial to maintain a positive mindset and believe in our abilities. When we listen attentively to our inner voice, we gain clarity on the steps we need to take to achieve our dreams. However, we can be our own worst enemy if we don't listen intentionally.
There are countless talented individuals in the world who never fully realize their potential. They let their gifts go unused, allowing them to wither and fade away. It's important to listen to our inner voice and act on it. You might be surprised at what you can achieve.
Have you ever had a brilliant idea but forgotten it? Or thought of a great title for your book but didn't write it down? Have you ever seen someone else's business and realized you had the same idea but didn't act on it? The key is to be prepared. Be ready to jot down any ideas that come to mind. Be willing to put in the work to achieve your goals. Be ready for the journey.
Finding a quiet place free from distractions can help you tune into your inner voice. Try to clear your mind of daily concerns and focus on the present moment. If you find it difficult to concentrate, try lighting a candle, playing soft instrumental music, or sitting in a dimly lit area. Above all, be comfortable. Your mind should be focused on your thoughts, not physical discomfort.
In silence, you may hear a flurry of ideas - titles for books, articles, events, movements, and blogs. These ideas often come when we're in touch with our inner thoughts. Many people miss out on opportunities because they don't listen to their inner voice. Don't ignore these sounds of silence. Instead, tap into them and see where they lead you.
Listen to your inner voice, act on your ideas, and watch as you transform your dreams into reality.

The story of Juanita as depicted in a Netflix movie serves as a powerful reminder that sometimes, we need to prioritize ourselves Juanita, a single mother of three adult children who all live with her finds herself in a life that revolves more around others than herself She works a job she doesn't love and yearns for a romantic relationship Eventually she reaches a point where she decides to take control of her life, acknowledging that she's been catering to everyone else without receiving anything in return
Juanita realizes that she's unhappy in her current situations - as a mother, an employee, and in her relationships She acknowledges that she's been taken advantage of and that she's allowed these things to happen This acknowledgment is a crucial step in her journey toward self-improvement It allows her to be honest with herself recognizing the obstacles that are hindering her progress
She also acknowledges that she's part of the problem understanding that people do what we allow them to do to us We often let people exploit our time, talent, and treasures and even harbor negative thoughts and beliefs that prevent us from moving forward Acknowledging these issues is the first step toward creating a solution
Juanita then takes the bold step of leaving her old life behind, telling her kids they will be fine and embarking on a journey to live life on her own terms She buys a oneway bus ticket with no set destination, seeking a fresh start Her actions underline the importance of making oneself a priority and living life without seeking permission from others
This narrative emphasizes the importance of forgiveness, particularly self-forgiveness as a part of the healing process Guilt can be a heavy burden, whether it's about not taking a leap of faith, not finishing what we started, or not being available to others Letting go of this guilt and forgiving oneself is a vital step in the journey toward self-discovery and personal growth
In conclusion, the story of Juanita serves as a powerful reminder that no permission is required to live your best life It's about acknowledging where you are, how you got there and making the necessary changes to become who you're purposely designed to be It's about making yourself the number one priority in your life and taking the leap towards living your best life
