The Enrichment programme we offer at Sherborne Qatar is a central element of the school’s mission to offer an outstanding British style education in the Middle East. We believe that encouraging pupils to engage beyond the curriculum, in a broad range of activities, is key to inculcating them with our school values. Extra-curricular activities have been hit particularly hard over the past two years of Covid restrictions, with children limited in how they can mix and socialise, both in and out of school. The first step on the long road back to a full Enrichment programme was online resources encouraging the children to develop new skills and share their achievements with friends. In November 2021 our pupils were able to utilise the world class facilities at the College of the North Atlantic and enjoy a range of activities from swimming to Paddle Tennis. Thankfully, March 2022 brought an easing of restrictions on the school site, finally allowing year group bubbles to mix and take part in activities outside the classroom. Though the offering was more focused than usual, to meet all ministry guidelines, many of the pupils leapt at the opportunity to get back into their favourite activities with rugby and netball as popular as ever.

A highlight of this year has been the launch of the Sherborne Football Academy which has allowed pupils to receive high level instruction from the coaches at Future Sport. Training sessions have been held in the school day, allowing access to more pupils than ever. Fixtures restarted at Qatar Foundation and the boys and girls had the opportunity to represent Sherborne. The squads have been invited to join the Qatar Foundation League next season, allowing great exposure to high quality fixtures for our developing footballers. The Summer Term held much promise with restrictions lifting further and a return of outside providers to the school site. New activities, such as ballet and basketball, joined our existing roster and when complemented by the wide variety of clubs offered by our passionate teachers a huge step was taken back towards the diverse and engaging programme, we pride ourselves on here at Sherborne Qatar Prep.
