The Brooklyn Museum is is an art museum located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Perhaps in comparison to its Manhattan neighbors, the museum is particularly community and family-centered, dedicated to the widely diverse cultural consumers of the five boroughs. Well known for presenting contemporary exhibitions in diverse and experimental formats, the institution actively encourages visitors to participate and form their own interpretations of great art. The original logo is composed of a fixed capital ‘B’, behind which eight different seals or sketches in a brilliant blue colour (defined as electric cyan) continuously change. Michael Rock, the creative director of the design said that the eight seals was designed to "reflect flexibility, change, surprise and accessibility." However, a seal with a big B in the center is like a mark of ownership and authority, conveying the very opposite meaning of flexibility and change. For some audience, especially the new comers, the big B leaves them a

deeper impression, compared with the logo variations. The new logo is to weaken the authoritative impression by moving the big B. Meanwhile, instead of defining a group of logo variations, the new brand identity is aimed at managing the process which manages the variations. The concept of variations has been developed to a alphabet system. The system is composed of 26 seals and each seal symbolizes a English letter with a certain meaning. The meaning originates from the former eight seals: star, hurricane, light, boom, wave, flower, nerve, germination, which symbolize direction, quickness, kaleido, unknown, mirror, zeal, transmission and oasis. The seals are created based on those meanings. The new logo is a hybride of eight new seals: "B" + "R" + "O" + "O" + "K" + "L" + "Y" + "N". They are overlapping with each other. It also uses gradient color to create a future feeling.
