About the Event The Juried Fiber Art Competition is a call to artists to expand their thinking in relation to textile materials, processes, concepts and results.You are invited to investigate what textiles are, or what they can be, and push forward to the “reinvention” or expansion of this multi-faceted medium. This show defines textiles as any type of material made from fibers or other extended linear materials such as thread or yarn including old and new materials, techniques, and technologies. The exhibition seeks to expand the definition of textiles. A statement for each piece is required stating the concept, technique, or material that supports its textile connection.
Exhibition Details 1. All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to hang and properly framed with wire. Plexiglas or single strength glass (no non-glare) and work should not weigh more than 50 lbs. 2. Shemer reserves the right to photograph and reproduce works of artists for publicity purposes. 3. The Juror and Director reserve the right to deny entry of any work deemed not suitable for display or too difficult to install. 4. The Shemer Art Center carries insurance for work damaged while on display. Digital Images Each artist may submit up to 3 digital images. Each image must be in JPG format and must be labeled with the number corresponding to the “List of Images” on this entry form. Format the file name as follows: -Lastname_firstname_(smith_jane_1.jpg). Do not send images imbedded in a Word document, PowerPoint presentation or via email. - High quality JPG files submitted on a PC-compat ible CD. - Label the CD with your first and last name. Do not send a ‘loose’ CD. Please put it in a case. Slides or printed images will not be accepted.

About the Juror
Call to Artists
Clare Verstegen is Professor of Art in the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, where she has been recognized with a Distinguished Teaching Award. Since 1989 she has been head of the Fibers program, where her expertise is printed textiles and surface design. She earned an MFA/Fibers from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI and a BS/Art from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. Her creative work has been shown in prestigious national and international exhibitions and has been recognized with several awards. Select publications featuring her work include American Craft, Fiberarts, Surface Design Journal, Senshoku Alpha and Duetches Textilform.
