LABURNUM CLINIC Expands
to Better Serve Our Community
In May 2022, construction began at our East Laburnum location to renovate and expand the clinic by more than 2,000 sq. ft. The end result is a brighter, more open, and modern space with state-of-the-art equipment, new floors, and updated lighting.
The fresh, modern look of the clinic mirrors the look and feel of Sheltering Arms Institute’s main therapy gym at the hospital, making for a more seamless transition for patients as they progress from inpatient to outpatient therapy. This expanded multi-disciplinary clinic is now able to better serve more patients who live in East Richmond.
Sheltering Arms has been meeting the needs of our community and those needs have evolved significantly. Over the last year, we’ve redoubled our effort to better serve those vulnerable communities in our city.

LaFonya Hines was our honorary ribbon-cutter at the re-opening ceremony for the Laburnum clinic on August 25, 2022. In June of 2022, LaFonya suffered a stroke and had little mobility on the left side of her body. She spent two weeks at Sheltering Arms Institute for inpatient rehab and described her progress as “miraculous.” She continued her recovery journey at the newly renovated Laburnum clinic and described it as a “seamless transition with the same level of care, same dedication, and same technology. It was like leaving one family and coming to the next for the second part of my rehab.”
