A message from our leaders

Across Sheltering Arms Institute, it was a remarkable year. In addition to providing exceptional rehabilitation services to individuals across Virginia and the MidAtlantic, we achieved several milestones that make us very optimistic about the future and the potential to help more people regain function and independence.

A successful corporate transition aligned inpatient and outpatient care, as well as support services, into one structure. This alignment enables a more comprehensive focus on improving access to the highest quality rehabilitation services available.

For example, more patients are benefiting from advanced therapeutic technology. We renovated and expanded services at our East End location and launched outpatient services at the hospital. These resources, made possible by generous donors, allow our teams to generate patient outcomes that were not possible a few years ago.

All of this is happening because an incredible community of healthcare professionals, generous donors, and community partners believe in new possibilities. And people are noticing.

We were named one of Virginia Living magazine’s Top Hospitals, accredited by DNV, and recognized with a renewal in the Traumatic Brain Injury Model System designation. Throughout this report, you will see many other examples of how this community’s courage and teamwork are reinventing rehabilitation.

We are grateful for everyone’s contributions and another outstanding year!
