Port Blair, Mar 24: As a part of SVEEP activity in the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha – 2019, a rally on the theme ‘Run for Democracy’ was organized from Danapur Junction to Netaji Sports Complex via German Jetty, Mayabunder today. The rally was flagged off by the District Election Officer/ Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman Distr ict, Mr. Awanish Kumar. The officials

of the DC Office, staff and students from MGG College, and general public participated in the rally.

The objective of organizing the rally was to promote informed and ethical voting and to inculcate responsible democr atic awareness amongst the general public so as to enable free, fair and peaceful conduct of election.

dressed the participants and highlighted about the role and responsibilities of the youth in strengthening the Democracy. He emphasized on ‘how each vote’ matters and the importance of ethical voting. Port Blair, Mar 24: Field day cum farmer’s interactions on application of CIARIBioconsortia for bacterial wilt disease management in brinjal was conducted on 19 March 2019 in Webi village, Mayabundar by ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICARCIARI), Port Blair in coordination with Department of Agriculture, Mayabubdar. A total of 60 farmers from different villages of Mayabundar and line department officials attended the program and benefitted. Mr. Soundararajan, Assistant Director (Agriculture and Soil) appraised the farmers on importance of organic farming. Dr. V. Baskaran, Principal Scientist (Horticulture) highlighted the

IPM technologies for better plant health management in the islands. Dr. K. Sakthivel and Dr. K. Venkatesan explained the methodologies on application of CIARI Bio-consortia and general bio-control agents for better plant health management. All the farmers were brought to success farmer’s organic brinjal fields and learnt the organic bacteria wilt disease management.

Technical demonstrations were given by success farmer along with Dr. Chandan and Mr. Kannan, the officials of Department of Agriculture.

Indian Coast Guard Apprehends One Indonesian Fishing Boat with 03 Crew near Katchal Port Blair Mar 24: The vigilant ship of Indian Coast Guard, while patrolling near Nancowrie group of Islands on 22 March 2019 apprehended one Indonesian fishing boat with 03 crew, which was illegally fishing in Indian water s. T he Coast Guard Ship Rajveer was on a routine patrol of Southern Group of Islands sighted one boat in position 05 miles South of Katchall Island. The Indonesian boat was engaged in fishing activity in Exclusive Economic Zones of India which was in clear violation of Maritime Zones of India Act 1981.T he Coast Guard ship tried to establish communication with the boat on mar itime frequency to identify; however, the boat did not r espond and increased her speed to run away. Coast Guard ship warned the boat several times on loudhailer and VHF set and also flashed search light indicating the boat to stop

and identify, however boat tried to evade and run away from Coast Guard ship. Finally, the boat stopped and surrendered after approximately one hour of chase.

The Coast Guar d boarding team boarded the boat and it was found that all three crew of the boat were Indonesian and none of them were holding any valid documents for fishing in Indian waters. The boarding team found about 50 kg of fresh fish onboard. The Coast Guard Ship is escort-

ing the fishing boat to Port Blair, so that joint investigation may be carried out by all security and intelligence agencies.The Indian Coast Guard has been maintaining constant vigil in Maritime Zones of India by deploying ships and aircraft regularly to monitor suspicious activities in our waters. Special Dispensation Facilities to PwD Voters during Elections Port Blair, Mar 24: A sensitization-cum-training program was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, N&MA as well as in all Tehsils of North & Middle Andaman District under the Chairmanship of Mr. Awanish Kumar, District Election Officer/DC, N&MA and concerned AEROs respectively on March 20 regarding special dispensation facilities for PwD Voters in the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha - 2019.

The programme was attended by all CDPOs, Mukhya Sevikas, Anganwadi Workers and Supervisors, whereby the participants were briefed about various facilities

to be provided to the PwD voters like proper ramp facilities, no queues, PwD assistants, separate vehicles and parking spaces, wheelchairs and stretchers, etc., on Poll Day. It was also informed that the PwD Voters have already been identified Polling Booth wise and PwD assistants have been nominated by the De-

partment of Social Welfare, to provide all the assistances to PwD voters. They were also requested to coordinate with respective PwD voters, concerned Sector Officers and AEROs for timely pick up and dropping of PwD voters back to their homes in a humble and respectful manner.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has sought details from the Indian envoy in Pakistan into the repor ted abduction of two Hindu teenaged girls and their forcible conversion to Islam on the eve of Holi in Sindh province.

In a tweet, Swaraj, while tagging a media report about the incident, said she has asked the Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan to send a report on the matter.

According to the media report, the incident took place in Dharki town of Ghotki district in Sindh province on the eve of Holi.

It said the Hindu community in the ar ea staged protests, demanding action against perpetrators of the alleged crime.

India has been raising the issue of plight of minorities, particularly the Hindu community in Pakistan.

Drowning Woman Rescued by Staff of PCR Van Port Blair, Mar 24: On 21/ 03/2019 at about 0740 hrs., an infor ma tion was r eceived at PCR that one lady is drowning in the sea near Mazar Pahad. Accordingly, PCR vehicle ‘POWER-1’ rushed to the spot and found that one lady was drowning into the sea. On this, the Police personnel HC D.P Subbaiah and PC Bhanu Pratap Singh acted swiftly

and jumped into the water to rescue the lady. Due to their timely intervention, they succeeded in pulling out the lady from the sea water. Thereafter, the lady was immediately shifted to G.B. Pant Hospital for treatment. The PCR staff, HC D. P Sub baiah and PC Bhanu Pratap Singh have shown exemplary bravery and humanity to save the

life of the lady namely Smt. Deepa, W/o Shri V.
