Virtual Conversation - Pandemic Unemployment Assistance with Jolene Wilkens, DWD Sheboygan Job Center 12PM - 1PM

A Letter From the President Even though spring finally seems to be arriving, it is difficult to feel the rush of pleasant feelings that usually accompany the end of a long winter. We all know how difficult it becomes to follow the almost continuous stream of sad news that comes out daily, both in terms of the tragic loss of life and the worsening economy.

We have no choice, however, but to keep our heads up and do what is necessary to “flatten the curve” and get things going again as soon as possible. I remain hopeful that this will happen sooner rather than later and try every day to count my blessings and appreciate the good things that are still in my life. I hope this newsletter finds you and those close to you in good health and that we can all do whatever we can to help each other. I feel the Chamber is continuously creating new ways to “virtually” work together with member partners by connecting on a regular basis.

from the desk of the executive director “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” Jimmy Dean Another month behind us, another month ahead of us. If you’re anything like me, you’re getting antsy right about now. Staying home is tough, being limited on where we can go, who we can see and what we can do is hard. But positively, there have also been some wonderful experiences during this time of craziness.

from the desk of the executive director (Continued) • We have all hopefully learned how to wash our hands, really, really well! • Spending time with our family inside of our homes. Life gets so busy and I know, personally, this opportunity to spend more time with my sons has been wonderful. Or their being forced to spend time with me. Whichever way you look at it, I am embracing this new found family time and enjoying every moment of it. • If you have school aged children, you’ve probably learned to appreciate teachers a whole lot more. This week is teacher appreciation week, let them know how much you miss them! • The innovation and creativity of Sheboygan County businesses is remarkable. In a short period of time, under excess pressure I’ve watched businesses transition and learn new ways of doing things. The results for some have been great, considering the current circumstances. • I’ve learned to appreciate technology on a whole new level, but I have also learned how much I love people and no amount of texting, zooming or time on social media will take the place of that. At the Chamber, we too are looking for creative ways to support businesses during this crazy time. Reaching out to members to learn more about what the needs are via telephone, email and social media, is helping us to provide the tools and resources being requested. We’ve been able to provide a number of programs and events via Zoom on a weekly basis and will continue to grow this as we see needs arise. The voice of the business community is so important right now and we are elated that you, our members, continue to put your trust and confidence in the Chamber. As we survey businesses, this information tell how we can best support you, but also helps to guide conversations at the County and State level. We are working diligently with local municipalities, chambers of commerce, County officials and State officials to be sure your voice is heard. Please be sure to participate in the Economic Impact Survey Part 3 later this week and make sure your voice is heard. Looking for ways to support local business. We recognize, the struggle is real. We are pleased to partner with Custom Craft Trophy in Plymouth to provide an online t-shirt store. The response has been wonderful and our hope is that whether your business has decided to participate or not, that you will help your fellow Chamber members by sharing the information across your platforms. $10 from each sale will go to the chosen participating business or organization. Buy your t-shirt here!

We know how important it is to bring the community together, to support one another and certainly to help our neighbors in need. We’ve partnered with United Way Sheboygan County, The Limelight Pub and local favorite The BBMC to put a FB live concert together for the whole community to watch from the Safety of their homes. So this Friday, May 8th, grab your favorite beverage and join us at 7pm for an evening filled with music and fun. Learn more by clicking here. And please share, share, share! We continue to update in real time as resources become available. If you are not familiar, please visit our Business Resource page for up to date information and share, share, share. We want ALL business to be successful and your business neighbors may not have access to these tools, so we encourage you to share with them. Our promise to you today and always. We will continue to work hard for our members and our community at large. We will only share, verified information from trusted sources. We will be available to assist, answer questions or just lend a listening ear even if we are working remotely. We will encourage partnership and support of one another. News from THE DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT (continued) We are still looking to reschedule a number of our earlier events and will be in contact with all members involved. When our county or state are cleared to return to some normalcy, we will be ready to go! As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the Business After Hours for 2020 is unfortunately sold out, but 2021 is wide open. We doubled up several months this year, and will do so for 2021, but don’t wait. Give me a call at (920) 395-8705 to schedule your BAH today! Some things to think about as we move through last three quarters of 2020: • If you haven’t joined a Deep Dive yet, there are still openings for all groups. We have been meeting via Zoom and would welcome any new member who wishes to join a group. Start 2020 by engaging with other members of the chamber from various business sectors. Health care, real estate, banking, insurance, painting and staining, attorneys, and many others are represented by exceptional people living in your county. Join a family of Deep Divers today! • Roundtables are a terrific way to meet others within your business sector. We are again using Zoom to keep us connected! Whether it’s Human Resources, Sales & Marketing, Not for Profit, and others, you’re sure to learn something from your peers. These peer-to-peer networking groups can help any one of your employees, or yourself, accelerate your learning curve, and minimize potential setbacks within your organization. Our own John Rogers does an outstanding job keeping each group on task, and always shares his own wealth of knowledge. Contact john@sheboygan.org and join a Roundtable today! • Our Young Professionals network goal is to attract, engage and retain young, diverse talent to Sheboygan County by providing opportunities for young professionals to design their social culture, serve as civic innovators and community stewards, and develop into the next generation of leaders for Sheboygan County. If you are interested in joining the YP network, please text SHEBCOYP to 57838. • Check out the chamber calendar at sheboygan.org and make sure you mark the remainder of 2020 calendar for all events coming up this year, it will still be an exciting and rewarding year! Hopefully things will begin to open up again in May, but probably not in full force until June. Whatever the “opening” date is, hang in there, stay safe, healthy, happy and I look forward to seeing everyone “in person” a lot sooner than later! #BETTERTOGETHER #STAYSTRONGSHEBCO

Molly, Coastal YPN Liason Hello Coastal YPN Nation! We hope everyone is well and staying safe and healthy as our stay at home has been extended. Since finding out we will be at home until May 26th, Coastal YPN has been busy planning events that will keep our young professionals entertained and energized as possible. On April 28th, our Coastal YPN held its first Virtual Zumba workout! We had a wonderful time and all of our attendees sweating by the end of it. We would like to send a HUGE thank you to Amanda Salazar who was kind enough to volunteer her time to show us her awesome moves and get us active. We are truly appreciative of Amanda taking the time to share her talents and energy! If you missed this event, do not worry we are working on creating more events like this in the future. Keep an eye on the Coastal YPN Facebook page for other activities to get your body and creative minds flowing.
