Cenovus Says
There’s no place like home. And since 2006, “home,” for the Allen County Special Olympics Sharks basketball team has been the Cenovus Lima Refinery gym. The team practices and hosts home games in the gym and a group of Cenovus employees volunteer their time to make it happen.

The partnership began when the team’s former coach had a relative who knew refinery Coordination and Economics Manager, Dennis Parsell. Dennis, a 39-year refinery employee, learned about how the Sharks had bounced around community gyms and church multipurpose rooms, and were looking for a place that could
“The team has a good following, and we have a full gym to watch them play,” Dennis said. “You know, there are days when I see NBA-style knock down competition, and then there are days when I see one player hand it back to someone on the other team to try another shot. It’s special. I know they think of this place as their home and I’m glad we can provide that.”
