Know Your Neighbors

Meet Rick and Laura Eddy of Atalan Trail in Indianbrook, along with their three children: Ritchie Eddy, Raven Spencer, and Falon Spencer. While Rick and his son have been lifelong residents of the Lima community, Laura and her two daughters moved to their current home in Shawnee from Tiffin, Ohio, in 2017.

Rick is the Chief Prosecutor for the City of Lima and has practiced law in all courts in Allen County and is a special prosecutor in surrounding counties. Laura is the Accounts Payable Specialist for HCF Management here in Shawnee. Ritchie is a senior at The Ohio State University majoring in hospitality management and is also enlisted in the ROTC program. He currently works as an assistant manager for Marriott in Columbus. Raven earned her bachelor’s degree in criminology from The Ohio State University in 2021 and is currently in her second year at Ohio Northern Pettit College of Law. She is currently working as a local law clerk/legal assistant. Falon is a senior at Apollo Career Center in the Spa and Esthetics Program. She is a licensed manicurist and is looking to attend the Ohio State Beauty Academy upon graduation this spring.

The Eddy family also has five fur babies: Danny, Nola, Sky, Maggie, and Cash. Four of their pets are rescues and two of the four only have three legs! Danny is a lab mix and he was born with three legs, while Maggie (the puppy) lost a leg following an accident. Despite their handicaps, they both are active and even love boating!

Together the family thoroughly enjoys Ohio State Football, boating on Lake Erie, and also watching baseball. In addition, they like going out to eat at Milano’s, but on Sundays you will find them at home enjoying Laura’s homemade family recipe of Sicilian meatballs.

Music is also a common passion for most of the members of the Eddy family. Rick is a guitar player with quite an extensive collection. He started playing right out of high school. While in high school he actually played the drums in the school band at Shawnee. He also plays the piano. Ritchie plays a little guitar, while Falon sometimes plays the ukelele. Raven is a drummer (with quite a few drum sets) and was in the drum line at her high school. She has also played in the band with Rick at Shawnee Alliance. Laura simply enjoys listening to them all!

The Eddys love living in Indianbrook.

“I enjoy attending the Indianbrook

Ladies Game Night,” said Laura. They all like that the neighborhood is so welcoming and family-oriented. Their favorite neighborhood events include the luminaries, food trucks, pet parade, and the summer block party.

Even though Laura is Italian, Rick is Irish…and with March being the month of St Patrick’s Day (and who isn’t Irish on St. Patrick’s Day?) when I asked Rick and Laura what their greatest blessing was they said, “Our biggest blessing would be our kids and how successful they have been.” With that being said, may this Irish blessing come to you and yours in 2023:

May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures. May all life’s passing seasons bring the best to you and yours!
