A Carol Stream woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $10,000 from the Wheaton North Booster Club, for which she once served as president, according to a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. From May 2006 to May 2011, Dorothy “Dee” Horky, 58, was president of the boosters, allowing her to have a club American Express card with her name on it, the release stated. In November 2012, club officials noticed inconsistencies in their books and alerted the Wheaton Police Department. An investigation by the police, assisted by the State’s Attorney’s Office, revealed Horky falsely told officials at the Booster Club she had destroyed the American Express card issued
to her after the expiration of her term, according to the release. Investigators discovered beginning in July 2012 to November 2012, Horky took cash advances totaling $10,985.53 against the club’s credit card, the release stated. Horky then withdrew money totaling $9,838.32 from a Booster Club bank account and transferred that money to pay for the cash advances she had taken on the card, according to the release. On March 7, 2013, a $5,000 arrest warrant was issued for Horky. Four days later, she turned herself in to authorities and posted bond, the release stated. Horky entered a blind guilty plea April 24 to one count of theft over $10,000, a Class 2 Felony, according to the release. Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 29.
