2 From the LCCOA
Executive Director By Susan Lawler March has never been my favorite month; but it has become the month I will look forward to in the upcoming years. The generosity, kindness and just out right humanitarianism flourished throughout our community. The month started out with Cathy Reglin’s retirement party; which was so well attended and gave her a wonderful farewell. Next came a visit from the Meadows of Franklin Grove; just a fun morning of Bingo and an opportunity to make new friends. Our 29th annual Chili/Soup Supper was a hit, starring The Super Red Hot Karaoke & DJ Service, our very own line dancers, fantastic guitarist, and an amazing audience.
To say the least we had a packed house; in fact, the event was to be over at 6 p.m., but at 7:30 we were still going strong. If you missed the great food, entertainment and just an all-round fun night; make sure you come to our annual Prom. LCCOA will knock your socks off. A special thank you goes out to Franklin Grove Living & Rehab Center, The Meadows of Franklin Grove, Oregon Living & Rehab Center and Maple Crossing at Amboy for sponsoring our Chili/ Soup Supper, and to all the volunteers who made our event the talk of the town. We move on to St. Pat’s Day and just a “Top of the Morning Day” we had; with music, fun games
From the WCSC Executive Director By Tori McDaniel I sure hope that “April showers, bring May flowers” is true! I’m so ready for spring and the ability to open the windows for fresh air. What do you like to do in the spring? We are looking to add a few more fun options for classes or events for our members. If you have an idea, please add it to the comment box in the dining room. Over the course of the year, we have tried offering various classes and events but haven’t gotten the participation
we had hoped for. We are obviously not doing a good job at scheduling things you would like to do, so we need your help in telling us what you would like to see offered. We know that everyone really enjoys our dances and we love to see how happy they make everyone that attends. Our dance last month was so much fun! Thank you to everyone that came. Each day we are beginning to see new faces which truly
and great refreshments. The only thing that could have made it better was a little Irish Jig and a bottle of Irish Beer. The reality is March could not have been a truly successful month without the generosity of the residents in our community. People purchasing tickets to give to other people, giving of their time and energy to make others happy and less alone, reaching out to give a helping hand, donating clothes, furniture, food and the list goes on. An e-mail went out to say there was a young woman in our community that needed everything including pots and pans; within days people from all over Lee County stepped up to the plate and donations flowed in. I am touched by the kindness that grows stronger each day. It is truly a amazing county to be a part of. To end our month we had a day to honor Ike Mercer and all the Veterans of Lee County. Ike was truly a wonderful person
and a great supporter of Lee County Council on Aging. He will be missed by LCCOA, Lee County, his friends, family and all who knew him and loved and admired him. In closing I would like to thank everyone that share their lives with us here at Lee County Council on Aging. We are grateful to be greeted each day by so many interesting and caring people. So mark your calendar for Saturday, April 6, from 6 p.m. until midnight, when you too will meet fun and interesting people and a great opportunity to dress up. If you missed your Prom here is your chance to attend the best Prom in town, or in fact any town. The Super Red Hot Karaoke & DJ Service will rock the whole night long. You might even become the King or Queen of the Prom. Until next time, Lee County Council on Aging – a place where you belong a place to call home. Happy Easter, Susan
brings us joy. We are so happy that the center is becoming a fun and lively meeting place for our patrons. We will continue to strive to make the center the best it can be, but we need your help. Please take a few minutes the next time you’re in, to tell us what you like to do. This will help us to determine what your interests are and allow us to focus on classes or activities that you will enjoy. Next month we will have a boxed lunch fundraiser on Friday, May 17. Mark your calendars now and tell your friends! This would be a great day to grab lunch and schedule a game of cards or pool. Speaking of pool, we have so many new friends that joined. The gentlemen have joked that they need a third table
and honestly, I think they do! Maybe in the future we will be able to get the group another pool table. If your interested in playing pool or joining an activity, please check out our activity section on page 8 of the Echo. We have an array of activities offered each day and there is something for everyone. If you have never been to the center but would like to join one of our activities, please come as we would love to have you! Beth or I would be happy to give you a tour of our facility and introduce you to fellow patrons. Just last week, Beth gave two tours which is exciting. We want our facility to be utilized as much as it can be! Don’t forget to drop your wish list in the comment box. – Tori
