The summer season is holding on for its last few weeks. We are so appreciative of the beautiful days and blue skies. Over the years, we have learned to be grateful for each day since we know this is a gift from the Creator. This morning we were greeted by June Shafer. Our speakers for the morning were Ryan and Angie Schick who were home visiting. They are staying in Honduras where they work at a medical and Christian mission. They shared pictures and the purpose of their mission work. There were several family members visiting our church for the morning. We are just a few weeks away from welcoming our new pastor to the area. On Tuesday evening, I attended our regular meeting of Chapter DW at the home of Paula Faivre. We received the details of our pecan fundraiser. There were lots of memories and good times shared through the night. From Pine Creek, Beverly Coffman, Lisa Coffman, and Vicki Hay also attended the meeting. The program was given by Kathy Scholl. Of course, there was much talk about helping women with their edu-

Fire Chief is moderating a discussion between a historian at the Peshtigo Fire Museum, and a curator from the Chicago History Museum. Both fires will be discussed because, while the Great Chicago Fire is better known, the Peshtigo Fire happened on the same day and is considered the deadliest wildfire in recorded history. Over 1,500 people lost their lives and 1.2 million acres of land were destroyed. This program is in partnership with the Westchester Public Library. cational needs. This afternoon, my friend Teresa and I went to Timberlake for “The Buddy Holly Story.” Also in the audience were Don and Vicki Hay. I spotted them during the intermission and we shared our excitement for the excellent performance. We received word that Charlotte arrived safely in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she has a home and will be enjoying her retirement. Her first task will be to move in and unpack in her things. We wish her well and hope to stay in touch with our dear friend. A couple decades ago, my friend Maggie Henning taught me to crochet. I wanted to make a blanket for an event. That first project remains unfinished. I put down my yarn for quite a while and picked it up again several years later. While going to school and working, I started to use crochet as a way to unwind and de-stress. In fact, last winter, I completed two blankets, a pillow, and a shawl. I picked up an old project of granny squares in hopes I would finish it. I like this project because it is worked one piece at a time. With smaller pieces, I can correct my mistakes and make sure that each square is done just right, one step at a time. Each square is beautiful on its
own, made with bright colors and outlined in white yarn. When we face a mountain, we can call on God and He is with us as we take each step. Each step is carefully taken so mistakes can be easily corrected. The journey is made up of meticulous and beautiful steps, just like my crochet project. We are blessed to have a guide with us while we navigate through our struggles. On the days when I have felt all alone, I remembered that He is always with me. With God, I can do anything and travel over any mountain. He is there for you, too, in every struggle. He will help you no matter where your steps take you. As we complete the journey, we can look back and see the beauty and purpose in our struggles, just like in the squares of my crocheted blanket. He is with us every step of the way. I hope to see you next week in our church in the country. Our service will be at 10:00am in person. Come and spend time in worship with us. Songs of praise and prayers of thanksgiving are part of each Sunday morning.
