Kuhn-Campbell Whitney L. Kuhn and Kwynn N. Campbell, both of Mark, are announcing their engagement and approaching marriage. She is the daughter of Sheli Starkey of Granville and Dan (Lynn) Kuhn of McNabb. He is the son of Vicki (Jim) CampbellDuncan, Brad (Diane) Harrison and the late Douglas Campbell. The bride-elect attended Putnam County High School in Granville, graduating in 2004. She graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She is employed as a mortgage underwriter with Heartland Bank and Trust in Peru. Her fiancé graduated from Putnam County High School in Granville

Whitney Kuhn and Kwynn Campbell in 1997. He attended Illinois State University in Normal, graduating in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He is employed as a data integrity specialist with ATS in Peoria. The couple will be married on Sept. 20.

Births Announced Cochran Joseph and Mackenzie (Daugherty) Cochran of Putnam are the parents of a son, Merritt Lee, born July 24. He weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 21 1/2 inches in length. He was welcomed home by one sister, Wesleigh Jo, 2. Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Scarlett Daugherty of Carterville. Paternal grandparents are Pam Cochran of Carbondale and the late Garnett Cochran.

Thomas Chaise Thomas and Vanessa Baxter of Granville are the parents of a girl, Trenity Diane, born June 19 at Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru. She weighed 8 pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches. She was welcomed home by one sister, Kynzie Brooke, 1. Maternal grandparents are Donald and Diane Baxter of Granville. Paternal grandparents are Janice Thomas of Spring Valley and the late Trent Thomas.

SMH offers diabetes class SPRING VALLEY — A Free Diabetes Education Class Series will be held at St. Margaret’s Hospital from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 12. The class will continue on the following two Mondays. The class will cover an overview of diabetes, com-

plications and monitoring, nutrition and diet, medications, stress management and social assistance, exercise and activity, and foot, skin and oral care. Participants will also receive a free glucometer. To register, call 815-6641183.

Paniers will note 70th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Joe Panier of Granville will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary this December. Due to travel restraints and a family reunion in August, the couple will celebrate their anniversary with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at the United Church of Christ in Granville. They will also celebrate Joe’s 90th birthday. Joe Panier and the former Jean Harker were high school sweethearts at Hopkins Township High (Class of ‘41 and ‘42). They were married Dec. 20, 1943, while Joe was on leave from the Army. The couple joined the Lutheran Church after they got married and are still active members. Joe worked as a carpenter with the Pletsch Brothers in McNabb until 1974, when he was elected as Putnam County Clerk and Jean was his Deputy County Clerk. They continued that job for 13 years prior to their retirement. They are the parents of three children, Janice, married to Ted Querciagrossa, lives in La Quinta, Calif.; Joyce, married to Ron Zellmer, lives in Peoria, Ariz.; and Jim, married to Jennifer (Kenyon), Panier of Plainfield. They also have four grandchildren, Krista (Zellmer) Platte,

Recipe Corner It’s that time of year when broccoli is abundant from your garden. Hope you enjoy these favorites of mine. What better way to get some vegetables into your meals that are good and tasty.

Pea and Broccoli Bake

1 16-ounce package frozen peas, thawed 1 16-ounce package frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained 1 10 3/4-ounce can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted 1 8-ounce jar process cheese sauce 1 cup seasoned salad croutons In a bowl, combine the peas, broccoli, soup and cheese sauce. Transfer to a greased 2-quart baking dish. Sprinkle with croutons. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 12 to 17 minutes, until bubbly. Serves 4 to 6.

Broccoli and Rice 1 10-ounce package frozen chopped broccoli 1 cup cooked rice 1/2 teaspoon celery salt 1 1/2 cups cubed processed American cheese Cook broccoli according to package directions.
