Starved Rock Motor Inn in Streator offers travelers a unique hotel with a modern yet retro style.

Starved Rock Motor Inn offers modern comfort with retro style Travelers looking for a unique hotel in the area with modern comfort yet a retro style can look no further. The Starved Rock Motor Inn opened last year and already word is spreading like wildfire. “The hotel has picked up really well,” said owner Kevin Shah. “We get really good feedback and clientele.” Shah, and his wife Reshma, purchased the former Town and Country Inn in July 2016 because he saw an opportunity to present a new type of venue that wasn’t available in the community. The building went through a lengthy renovation period which consisted of Shah and his team replacing the flooring while adding new beds, linens, flat-screen TVs, wifi access, microwaves and refrigerators. A brand new retro design and feel was also introduced to a number of the rooms as well as an updated security and camera system. Shah said he wanted to create a safe and friendly environment that he would feel comfortable with his own daughters visiting when they grow up. Guests can also expect hot breakfast every morning and access to a coffee bar all day long. The renovations weren’t just to serve guests to the hotel, but also residents living nearby with the addition of Roamers lounge. The comfortable social seating area is complemented by an upscale bar atmosphere and a number of video gaming machines. Shah said creating a fun, safe yet social environment was key to the space and he hopes to attract a number of residents looking for a unique and comfortable gaming experience. “The lounge is picking up interest,” Shah said. “Whenever we get new people

in they’ll say ‘We never knew this existed.’” The location also includes over 1,400 square feet of meeting and banquet space complete with all the modern technology present in larger, upscale areas such as a projection screen, microphone and stage. The space is perfect for family gatherings, reunions, rehearsal dinners, corporate functions, training seminars, fashion shows as well as bridal and baby showers. There are also plans to introduce a larger 2,400 square foot wedding venue while still keeping prices affordable and relative to the area. Both the meeting space and the lounge have already been used for mobile boutique nights, corporate meetings and live music events. For the smaller group gatherings, the hotel offers a more private meeting room which can hold up to 10 people. Shah said the facility really acts as multiple businesses in one with the gaming parlor, social lounge, hotel and future wedding venue. He looks forward to seeing the business continue to grow and introduce guests to the many new offerings on the horizon. Social Media Strategist, Rhonda Eilts, at Biz Buzz suggests following the business’ social media pages to discover all that is happening inside. “There is also a new LED display along the roadside that highlights events,” Eilts said. “You will truly be pleased with the relaxing atmosphere and excellence in customer service.” Starved Rock Motor Inn is a member of the Streator Area Chamber of Commerce.

Pirate’s Cay Waterpark in Sheridan offers 31,000 square feet of fun, including water features, slides and dump bucket. It’s not every day that you get to stand in a deluge of water being dumped from a giant bucket! But at Pirate’s Cay Waterpark in Sheridan, it happens daily! Located just minutes north of Ottawa off Illinois Route 71, it is 31,000 square feet of awesome! The park includes a pirate’s ship themed children’s playscape with operatorcontrolled water features, water guns, slides and dump bucket that is fun for the whole family. Out of the four water slides, two of them are tube slides entitled The Kraken and The Hydra. If that isn’t enough, ride the two body slides, The Jewel and The Pearl. But for those looking for a slower pace, take a few trips around the Lazy River to relax and unwind. If you happen to find yourself overcome with hunger after a day spent twirling, dipping and drifting your way through the park, grab a bite to eat at Subway or Mama DeLuca’s Pizza. A gift shop offers swimsuits, towels, t-shirts, jewelry and novelty candy and ice cream. Senior Manager of Guest Engagement Brynn Hermann had this to say about Pirate’s Cay and what it has to offer: “Being in the Midwest it is always challenging to find a family friendly and focused environment that offers water based activities year round and Pirates Cay
