THEODORE JOHNSTON JR. Born: July 14, 1925; in Evanston, IL Died: Feb. 15, 2015; in Bartlett, IL Ted Johnston, age 89, of Bartlett and formerly of Crystal Lake and Woodstock passed away February 15, 2015. He was born July 14, 1925, in Evanston, the son of Theodore and Elizabeth Johnston. Ted is survived by his children, Jennie (Dennis) Rice, Julie (John) Mudry, Mary (Mark) Koziol. His grandchildren, Maegan, Joel, Jennifer, Amber, Lauren, Jessica and Emily. He is preceded in death by two sons, Timothy (The late Janet) Johnston and Michael Johnston. Ted served in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Purdue University as a civil engineer and later became VP for Hodge-Warren-Zimmerman Company. He and his wife raised their family in Addison, where he served as a trustee for the Village of Addison. In his later years he worked for Jewel-Osco in Cary and Huntley. He was a great lover of music and dancing, especially of the big band era. Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2015, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the Kahle-Moore funeral Home, 403 Silver Lake Rd., Cary. Velda Mae Miller, age 88, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at Highland Oaks, Elgin. She was born October 6, 1926, in Petersburg, Illinois, the daughter of Frank W. VanEman and Laura E. (McKee) VanEman. Velda attended school in Athens, Illinois, and was a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, Illinois, in 1947. She worked at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, and then Sherman Hospital, Elgin for 40 years before retiring. Surviving are her husband, Calvin H. Miller whom she married on October 12, 1946; 2 daughters, Rebecca K. (Dennis) Lawton and Gretchen R. Yagow; 1 son, James V. (Rebecca) Miller; 7 grandchildren, Amelia (Steven) Klemp, Joshua (Jennifer) Yagow, Laura (Timothy) Schoenrock, Abigail (Joshua) Seltz, Otto (Melinda) Miller, Tyler and Dane Miller; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Alice Miller; 2 sisters, Bonita VanEman and Mary V. Bakur; 3 brothers, Oliver, Hubert and Robert VanEman. SMITH Born: Nov. 14, 1926; in Elgin, IL Died: Feb. 15, 2015; in Cary, IL Virgene Kathryn Smith, 88, longtime resident of Cary and formerly of Dundee, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 15, 2015, at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born November 14, 1926, in Elgin to the late Andrew and Mildred Miller. She was joined in marriage to the late Willard Duane Smith on December 7, 1947, in Dundee. Virgene was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. She was a second generation owner alongside her husband, Willard, of W. Smith Cartage, Inc. Family was most important to her; she was a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, not only to her family but to many others. Virgene loved to garden, travel, and work in the family business alongside her children. She also loved music and dancing, but most of all entertaining, throwing fabulous parties around the family pool. A special thanks to Virgene?s caregivers, for the loving care and comfort they provided to her. MARTIN A. ZIEBEL Born: March 11, 1942 Died: Feb. 15 2015 Martin “Marty” A. Ziebel, age 72, a resident of Trevor WI, died Sunday February 15th 2015, at St. Catherine’s Hospital. Marty was born March 11th, 1942, in Chicago to Edward and Lorraine (Nordell) Ziebel. He was educated in the schools of Illinois and received his Associates Degree from the College of Lake County. Marty served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. In March of 1964, he married Lynda Wiedenhoeft. They later divorced. On July 8, 1983, he was united in marriage with Janice Huck. Marty was a longtime employee of Charmglow, many of those years as the Plant Manager. He then worked until 2008 as Manager at the Kenosha Achievement Center. Marty’s greatest love was the outdoors. He relished a good Packer game, but hunting, camping, fishing, boating; those were the things that brought him joy. Marty cherished his family very much and his greatest delight came in the role of Grandpa to his seven grandchildren. Marty will be deeply missed by his wife, Janice of Trevor; his sons, Martin Jr. of Harvard IL, Thomas (Christine) of Genoa City, and Juston Paczkowski of Chicago IL; and by his daughters, Amy Lynn of Rockford IL and Angela (Brian) Dillon of Chicago IL. He is further survived by his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia, Ryan, Isabelle, Liam, Niamh and Sonia. Marty is also survived by his brothers, Brian (Irmgard) of McHenry IL and Dean (Valerie) of Johnsburg IL; and by his sisters, Victoria (Richard) Hoffman of Effingham IL and Karen (Mike) O’Meara of Littleton CO. Preceding Marty in death were his parents; a brother, Glen; and a son, Richard in infancy.
