McHENRY: RIVERSIDE HOTEL FIRE INVESTIGATION

McHenry resident faces sexual abuse charges

Lost Valley Visitor Center open despite damage

WOODSTOCK – A McHenry man has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for inappropriate contact with a minor. Woodstock police said they began an investigation in December and joined with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s OfGonzalo fice, the Illinois Ramirez Department of Children and Family Services and the Woodstock Child Advocacy Center to complete it. As a result of the investigation, Gonzalo Ramirez, 62, 713 N. Mill St., was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse – a Class 2 felony that carries a potential sentence of four to seven years in prison. Woodstock police took Ramirez into custody at the Woodstock Police Department on Monday after cooperating with Woodstock detectives, police said. Ramirez was taken to McHenry County Jail Tuesday morning where he remains in custody.

RINGWOOD – The Lost Valley Visitor Center at Glacial Park remains open despite water damage caused by a burst pipe early Monday morning. The damage was the result of a frozen pipe that burst about 3:30 a.m. Monday, setting off an alarm that notified on-site staff, said McHenry County Conservation District spokeswoman Wendy Kummerer. The water flowed for about a half hour before it was turned off, damaging the floor and carpeting of the main floor’s Valley Overlook Room and the ceiling of the kids’ classroom located in the basement, she said. An estimated cost of the damage is not yet available as insurance is still looking into it, Kummerer said. The McHenry County Conservation District’s Board of Trustees will vote on waiving the 30-day competitive bid process at its meeting Thursday evening so the repairs can be expedited. However, the damage has not affected a free, twomonth visiting special exhibit on wolves and other wild
