New Lenox is served by two Metra commuter rail stations for those who commute to downtown Chicago for employment or leisure. Additionally, Silver Cross Hospital and Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital have made New Lenox a regional healthcare destination. Being one of the top hospitals in the country, Silver Cross boasts prestigious partnerships with the University of Chicago Cancer Treatment Center, Robert H. & Ann Lurie Children’s Memorial Hospital Outpatient facility, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Located in Will County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state with a current population that has doubled in the last decade, totaling approximately 700,000 residents, New Lenox maintains strong demographics supported by:
• Highly ranked schools
• Ranked #2 in Will County and top 10 in the Chicago Metro area for new housing starts
• Median household income over $133,000
• Fourteen continuous years of property tax rebates to our residents
• Ranked one of the safest communities in Illinois
New Lenox has a strong history of volunteerism which has been reinforced as the community has grown. Residents are continuously encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved and give back. In recognition of the strong community spirit in the Village, New Lenox has been awarded the Governor’s Hometown Award for volunteerism numerous times.
Moreover, New Lenox was the ninth community in the US to receive “Safe Community” designation from the World Health Organization and the National Safety Council. Having been re-accredited, New Lenox is the only municipality with the “Safe Community” designation in Illinois.
The Village Board has taken proactive measures to encourage new commerce and industry in New Lenox and has seen results along Route 30 by welcoming many new businesses to the area. The Board and I have also continued our progressive approach to addressing infrastructure needs, repairing roads and water/sewer lines to stay ahead of our population growth.
New Lenox has opened a new 12,000 square foot building to house the KidsWork Children’s Museum, as well as the Wintrust Crossroads Sports Complex off I-355 that will host regional and multi-state tournaments.

KIDSWORK MUSEUM
SETTLES
Exploring, playing and having a blast is all in a visit to the KidsWork Museum that has quickly settled into its New Lenox home since moving into the new 12,000-square-foot facility in fall of 2024.
Long time members and friends and new faces are discovering the museum’s sprawling exhibits and opportunities to learn through play.
“We were thrilled by the opportunity to be a part of the Village of New Lenox,” said Nicole Underwood, executive director of KidsWork Museum.
The new one-story facility enables the museum to showcase its 21 exhibits, accessible to visitors of all abilities. This includes the newly revised water table, which Underwood said is one of the most popular exhibits in the museum.
By Melissa Rubalcaba Riske
After 17 years in Frankfort the KidsWork Museum outgrew its 6,000-square-foot space in the Trolley Barn. The museum draws an average of 40,000 visitors a year and is the only children’s museum in Will County.

This summer the museum’s new outdoor play area will open, including its covered picnic area.
“We’re excited to add on another new feature,” Underwood said.
KidsWork Museum is part of the Association of Children’s Museums, or ACM. Members of KidsWork can visit children’s museums throughout the country who are also a part of ACM at a discounted rate.
The museum is closed on Mondays to accommodate field trips from local schools, and Underwood noted that its field trips schedule filled quickly. Smaller field trips, usually 20 students or less, can still plan visits during the museum’s week-day hours.
With a larger facility the museum created a multi-purpose room where it can host ongoing activities, such as story time and art, while on the weekends, it hosts birthday parties. Underwood said even before the museum relocated last fall, it was booking out birthday parties.
The new space has enabled the museum to have fun marking holidays and events,
from its members-only events to hiding 800 plastic eggs for two Easter Egg Hunts that took place inside the museum.
This summer the museum will have its popular summer camps, with each week focusing on a different fun theme for participants, ages 3-7. Underwood said she received more than 500 applications

CROSSROADS SPORTS COMPLEX
MULTIPLE SPORTS FIND A HOME AT NEW FACILITY
By Melissa Rubalcaba Riske
Youth athletes from across the country are coming to New Lenox with the opening of Crossroads Sports Complex.
The new multimillion, 100-acre sports complex at the crossroads of Interstate 355 and 80, next to Silver Cross Hospital, will mark its grand opening in June and games start July 3, said Scott Brost, general manager for Crossroads Sports Complex. The facility has the equivalent of nine full-size baseball fields, which can be configured to host a number of sports including youth baseball, softball, lacrosse,
ultimate frisbee and soccer.
The Village of New Lenox leadership had a vision for creating a multi-sport complex. The athletic fields, as well as two fullservice concession stands, a play area, two batting cages, a welcome center and a beer garden opens this summer as the completion of Phase I.
In Phase II, the village will build a 122,000-square-foot field house that can accommodate basketball, volleyball and wrestling tournaments as well as provide an indoor space for small business
conventions. Additionally, Phase II will include building the out lots where the village leadership would like to see restaurants and retail space as well as onsite hotel.
The Crossroads Sports Complex will be able to accommodate sports tournaments and Brost said he’s secured use of the fields from opening week in July through late fall of this year and into June of 2026.
“This is a community-driven project that will positively impact the New Lenox area,” Brost said.
The Crossroads Sports Complex is projecting a $12 million economic impact on the area in its first year and $20 million by its third year of operations. More than half million visitors are expected to use the fields annually. Projections of the economic impact in the community show more than $30 million of income with the completion of the second phase as visitors travel to the region to stay and play, as well as eat, fuel up and shop too.
“This will have an economic impact and ripple through the community,” Brost said.
Brost said he’s booked tournaments and field usage from local New Lenox teams, teams throughout the Midwest and across the country, with players from California, Florida and the East Coast traveling to participate in sports events.
The sports fields have artificial turf, rather than grass, which will allow a greater longevity of the sports field surface, Brost explained.
“It’s a better playing surface and it has greater durability with the anticipated number of sports events. Natural grass would not last that long,” Brost said.
Additionally, below the turf fields are layers of stone extending down around six feet. This will allow for field drainage, even after a heavy rainstorm.
The project was designed by JLG Architects and built by Northern Builders. In the fields flexible designs it can accommodate 22 youth baseball fields or 11 soccer fields.
In addition to booking out the fields Brost is managing strong interest in sponsorships and advertising on the fields. There is the Pepsi Play Area with entertainment for all ages adjacent to a playground and the Coors Light Chill Beer Garden with beverages and food.
“We’re working with local companies, regional and national companies to bring the very best to the village,” Brost said, adding that in additional to naming sponsorships there will be digital signage.
The field neighbor Silver Cross Hospital will serve as the facility’s emergency services.
“We have great packages and opportunities. This is not just about sponsors, but making sure the fit and feel is great,” Brost said.

SANCTUARY GOLF COURSE OFFERS
CLASSIC ROUNDS & INNOVATIVE RANGES
By Melissa Rubalcaba Riske
Golfers have long enjoyed a round at The Sanctuary Golf Course in New Lenox but the course’s expansion of its practice facilities is generating a buzz and drawing new players to the course year round, even on winter’s coldest days.
The installation of the Toptracer Driving Range, with heated bays where golfers tee off a mat using golf ball with tracking for information including distance and location, has changed up the game at The Sanctuary Golf Course. The course installed the Toptracer Driving Range near the end of 2023 and in 2024 it expanded its green grass driving range with additional bays.
The expansion means the course has 65 tees available in the two driving range facilities. Prior to the expansion it had 22 tees.
For Bob Schulz, Director of Golf for The Sanctuary Golf Course, it has been more than exciting to see how the “If you build it, they will come” concept has proven true for the nearly 30-year-old course.
“We’re seeing a lot of new faces. We’re seeing a lot of people who never thought
they’d play golf coming out to enjoy the driving ranges,” Schulz said.
Even on the coldest of days, the course had customers using the Toptracer Driving Range, where the 20 heated bays make it comfortable for golfers to work on their individual game or enjoy a match between friends. The Toptracer Driving Range with its technology makes it fun for a golfer to track their swing.
Golfers can download an app that will enable them to track their continued progress and provide stats. The technology also has a big entertainment factor, with games that even the youngest golfer will have fun trying to hit the targets, much like a Top Golf facility. Families, co-workers and even teens are coming out to play. After an hour at the driving ranges, they stop for “the best chicken tenders” and other nosh at the course’s bar and grill.
“We had this vision three years ago and I’m excited the park board got 100 percent behind it,” Schulz said. “We went for it and the community loves it.”
The Sanctuary is an enterprise facility under the guidance of the New Lenox Park District. It is self-funded and uses its revenues to pay for continued maintenance and upgrades at the facility. Schulz explained a revenue-based loan enabled the park board to fund the improvements, at no cost to the tax payers.
Starting in April, the course opens its grass tee driving range. Schulz explained the team opted to seed and grow grass for an improved experience. Schulz, a PGA member and golf pro, shares a passion for the game and seeing players have the best experience. He’s been a part of The Sanctuary for more than 20 years and is excited to see the renewed interest in the course’s practice facilities.
There’s no such thing as a perfect game in golf, only the drive to play better the next time, Schulz said. The addition of the new practice facilities makes it easier for golfers
to hone their skills. Unlike some facilities that charge by the hour, the team at the course wanted visitors to practice at their own pace, rather than be concerned about a timed visit. The Sanctuary’s driving range cost is based on the bucket of balls, starting with a warm-up bucket of 25 balls for $7.
The Sanctuary is the home course for the boys and girls golf teams from Lincoln-Way Central High School and Lincoln-Way West High and coaches are encouraging players to get out to the practice facilities in the off-season, Schulz said.
