DAR Good Citizen Award presented to Madix Barrett of Stillman Valley High School

Madix Barrett was presented the DAR Good Citizen Award by Lydia Roberts of the Rochelle Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.

Madix was chosen through a process that involves both the teachers and the members of the senior class. The winning student is selected because he or she exemplifies the traits of a Good Citizen which are Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism.

In addition to being selected as the winner for Stillman Valley High School, Madix’s essay on “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It” was selected by a team of independent judges as the winner from five Rochelle area Good Citizen schools and was advanced from the chapter to the district level.

Ogle County Health Administrator Kyle Auman speaks to Oregon Lions Club

Ogle County Health Department Administrator Kyle Auman and Public Health Service Coordinator Anisa Torres spoke to the Oregon Lions at their regular meeting May 26.

Much of the Health Department’s attention recently has been directed to coping with the COVID-19 epidemic, but the Ogle County Health Department provides many other services.

In their presentation, Auman and Torres explained the services that are available to the people of Ogle County.

Meat Raffle

On June 23, the Oregon Lions held their annual meat raffle and drew the tickets for the 85 winners. The prizes included five $50 gift certificates, 20 turkeys, 20 hams, 20 steak packages and 20 pork chop packages.

Oregon Lions wish to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and supported Lions’ charities.

Spencer Price to mark 85 years

Spencer Price of Oregon will celebrate his 85th birthday July 10.

His family would like to wish him a very special Happy Birthday: daughter, Renee, of Oregon; three grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) Detig of Indianapolis, Indiana; Adam (Ally) Detig of Indianapolis; Ashley (Jon) Poelhuis of the Netherlands; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Samatha, and Jack.

Pamela “Panjee” Plachno earns doctorate in physical therapy

Pamela (Panjee) Plachno, the daughter of Larry and Nancy Plachno in Polo, was recently awarded a doctorate degree in physical therapy.

Plachno attended schools in Polo including Centennial, Aplington Middle School and Polo Community High School.

After graduating from Polo schools in 2011, Plachno attended San Pedro College in Davao City in the Philippines. While there she completed four years of studies and a year of internship in 2016 for a degree in physical therapy.

She was honored with the Leadership Award, Department Service Award and the Clinical/Practicum Efficiency Award.

After returning to northwestern Illinois, she has been employed as a physical therapist by Athletico while continuing her advanced studies.

She was awarded her doctorate of physical therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institutes of Health Professionals at the end of April. Pamela (Panjee) Plachno

Kishwaukee College announces Spring 2022 graduates

Kishwaukee College has announced the graduates for the Spring 2022 semester.

Graduation honors are divided into three categories based on final cumulative grade-point average on a 4.0 scale: summa cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.75-4.0; magna cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.5-3.749; and cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.25-3.499.

Students who fulfill requirements for a Certificate and have a final cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher are awarded a Certificate with Distinction. Students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society are recognized as PTK.

The graduate total for the semester is 300 students who completed a total of 337 degrees and certificates for Spring 2022.

Open Show isn’t just for kids

There’s still time to enter the Open Show at the Ogle County Fair.

The deadline to enter has been extended to Sunday, July 24.

The show competition isn’t just for kids. Adults are encouraged to show off their talents and expertise in the annual Open Show and maybe win a cash premium in the process.

Residents of Ogle County and surrounding counties who are 21 and older are eligible to enter the Open Show. Categories include Fruits and Vegetables, Floriculture, Beekeeping, Clothing, Craft, Photography, Quilting, Painting and Drawing, and Foods, as well as the Open Horse Show.
