W
hen Jenise Collins was first asked to go to a nutrition club eight years ago, her first thought was, “What the heck is that?!”
Now, she owns one such club: Bulldog Nutrition, in Batavia. “I never even thought about owning a business or nutrition club,” Collins says. “This was not my background.” That was before Collins experienced the health benefits for herself. “When I started going to ProFusion in Geneva, I really needed to lose weight — my blood pressure was off the chain and it was either I spend more time in the hospital or I go home and do what I needed to do,” Collins says. “I started drinking two shakes a day and eating a good dinner and within three days I lost 5 pounds.” She continued to work with guidance from her nutrition coach and mentor, Margaret Carlson from ProFusion in Geneva, while working out

regularly and substituting shakes into her diet. “I’m down 50-60 pounds from where I started,” Collins says. “I chose this because it’s simple and it’s easy. Anyone can enjoy it. It worked for me, and I wanted to share it with other people.” With the support of her husband, Eugene Whitaker, Collins moved from a full-time family teacher at Mooseheart Child City and School to part-time and opened Bulldog Nutrition in September 2019. “It’s been challenging, but little by little we’ve been getting new customers,” Collins says, noting her husband helps her out a lot around the shop. Bulldog Nutrition offers 24 flavors of shakes, teas and aloe drinks that are all low in sugar and high in protein. Shake flavors range from Thin Mint to banana nut and orange cream.
