l Shorewood Park and Recreation Department One Towne Center Blvd., Shorewood vil.shorewood.il.us/departments/ parks-and-recreation Shorewood has 17 parks with more than 140 acres of land. Discover its running trails to fishing locations, an 18-hole Disc Golf Course and three splash pad locations to cool off on hot summer days. There are also plenty of classes for all ages to hone skills and help develop new interests.

l Hammel Woods Black Road, west of Interstate 55, Shorewood www.reconnectwithnature.org/ preserves-trails/preserves/hammel-woods/ hammel-woods-dupage-river Known for its access to the DuPage River, Hammel Woods is a popular place for land and water recreation. Bring your bike or running shoes to enjoy the trails. When the snow falls, enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Canoe or kayak on the river or claim a space on the shoreline and cast your line to enjoy a day of fishing. New to the park is a 10.8 acre off-leash dog park for small dogs, 35 pounds and smaller. A permit is required to use the dog park. l Lake Renwick Preserve 23113 Lockport St., Plainfield www.reconnectwithnature.org Part of the Will County Forest Preserve, this area features the Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, Copley Nature Park and Turtle Lake Access. Avid bird watchers and nature lovers can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Along with nesting herons, egrets and cormorants, visitors have seen American white pelicans, waterfowl and even bald eagles. The preserve includes a visitor center and the Lake Renwick Bikeway, a great spot to cycle, run and cross country ski.

Avery YMCA has opportunities for all ages to enjoy wellness and fun. Check out the latest classes, both online and in-person, available at this location. Fitness features include an aquatic center and water park, as well as indoor and outdoor running tracks.

l Towne Center Park Wynstone Drive at Towne Center vil.shorewood.il.us This park truly offers something for all ages, with amenities that include a spray pad, basketball court, a playground, bacci ball court and space to play horseshoes too.

l Plainfield Park District 24550 W. Renwick Road, Plainfield (815) 436-8812 | www.plfdparks.org Residents take pride in their park district for its array of programs for all ages. The park district includes 64 playgrounds, two skate parks, three dog parks, a pool, recreation centers and the Normantown Trails Equestrian Center. l Shorewood Park Rt. 59 between Amendodge and Sell Road vil.shorewood.il.us This wooded park with 14 acres is one of the most well-known in the area and is home to the 18-hole disc golf course where friends come to enjoy an afternoon and the site of disc golf tournaments.
