MORRISON – A Morrison man died Tuesday after being involved in a head-on crash on U.S. Route 30 near Hillside Road. Authorities say that Jesse R. Jones, 22, was heading east on

Route 30 about 3:50 p.m. when his car crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a pickup truck traveling west. After being removed from his car by members of the Morrison Fire Department, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck,

Dustin J. Funderberg, 31, of Morrison, and his two passengers, Lani L. Funderberg, 66, and Mary M. Funderberg, 33, both of Morrison, were taken to an area hospital. Their conditions were unknown. After the accident, Route 30 was closed, backing up traffic for about 2 miles at one point.

Wouldn’t it be super? Teens urge random acts of kindness in video BY KIMBERLY WATLEY For Sauk Valley Media

T

wo 16-year-olds, Kyle Nutt and Zade Abdullah, have been seen all over Sterling and Dixon donning superhero costumes. And now, the entire Internet is catching a glimpse. “I was cringing seeing them leave the house in superhero costumes, wondering what they were up to,” Kyle’s father, Stephen, said with a laugh. “This is not their typical video, and I am proud of them.” The blue and green avengers have been committing random acts of kindness upon strangers. Each took turns filming recipients’ reactions to create “How to be a Super Hero,” which is quickly headed viral. Jimmy Taylor ran a second camera to help capture the reactions of surprised strangers, including a homeless man who dropped to his knees, looked toward the heavens, and clasped his hands in prayer. Zade Abdullah films Kyle Nutt for an upcoming video on their YouTube channel, HiddenReaction. The bulk of the Dixon High School students’ videos are exclusively humorous, but they tried to balance humor and human compassion in “How to be a Super Hero,” which has more than 10,000 views and 396 likes – against nine dislikes – at YouTube.com.

The video can be found at www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrbd1Td1CPA on the HiddenReaction Channel. The YouTube Partnership program is driven by subscribing, commenting, liking and sharing videos. The more of each they receive, the larger their stipend. Jimmy Taylor’s channel is DIY4FILM.

MORRISON – Jim Wise, Morrison’s former administrator, was hired last week for the same position in Cherry Valley, a Rockford suburb. It is familiar terrain for Wise, a former alderman in nearby Belvidere. In May, newly seated Morrison Mayor Everett Pannier announced he would not keep Wise, who served for 2 years. Last week, Cherry Valley’s village board voted unanimously to appoint Wise as its new administrator. He filled the position held by David Nord, who resigned in the spring after 25 years. Jim Nord recentWise ly became Dixon’s first administrator. More than 20 people applied for the Cherry Valley position – and Wise was among about eight to get interviewed, village Trustee Gary Maitland said. Morrison has a population of about 4,100 people, 1,000 more than Cherry Valley. “We just liked what Jim had to say,” Maitland said. “He’s had good experience. He lived up in this area. He’ll present a fresh look at doing things in Cherry Valley.” Cherry Valley assesses no property taxes, relying instead on sales taxes from extensive commercial development, including CherryVale Mall and waterpark Magic Waters.
