Sheriff ’s off ice relea ses holiday enforcement numbers
O g l e C o u nt y s h e r i f f ’ s d e p u t i e s issued 276 citations including four impaired driving arrests during the recent holiday enforcement effort.
C i t a t i o n s a n d c r i m i n a l a r r e s t s r e s u l t e d f r o m n u m e r o u s o f f e n s e s including:
• Four arrests for driving while under the influence • Two stolen vehicles recovered
• Four felony drug arrests • Four misdemeanor drug arrests • 33 citations to uninsured motorists • 1 6 9 c i t a t i o n s f o r speeding and speeding related offenses • 28 citations for drive r s w i t h n o v a l i d , s u s p e n d e d o r revoked licenses • 3 citations for illegal transportation of alcohol.
Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this effort to save lives by getting impaired drivers off the roads and more people
buckled up.
The enforcement campaign took place from Dec. 17 through Jan. 3.
D u r i n g t h e m o b i l i z a t i o n , e x t r a emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, when statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur.
The holiday enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
OGLE COUNTY SHERIFF ACTIVIT Y
Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following activity:
Dec. 29
Beyvon North, 19, of Naperville, was arrested at 5:45 p.m. for not having a valid driver’s license after deputies responded to the 6000 block of South Locust Road in reference to a car in a ditch. Passenger Soha Kahn, 20, of DeKalb, was also arrested for obstructing identification. North and Kahn were transported to the Ogle County Jail.
Dec. 30
Joel Newcomer, 61, of Chana, was arrested at 9:56 a.m. for driving while license suspended after deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2000 block of South Watertown Road. Newcomer also was cited for illegal transportation of alcohol and driving with a suspended registration. He was released on an I-Bond at the scene.
Ashley Paddie, 30, of Dixon, was arrested at 12:28 p.m. for driving on a suspended license after deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Illinois Route 64 for a speeding violation. Paddie also was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. Paddie was released on a signature I-Bond with a return court date.
Deputies were dispatched to a driving complaint northbound on Illinois Route 2 from Mud Creek Road at 6:21 p.m. The vehicle eventually was located at Casey’s at 700 West Blackhawk Dr. in Byron. After an investigation, Carl C. Hightower, 25, of Rockford, was arrested for no valid driver’s license and improper container of cannabis/ driver. Hightower also was issued a citation for operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Hightower was transported to the Ogle County Jail and held in lieu of bond.
Elizabeth Dray, 26, of Rockford, was arrested at 7:29 p.m. for driving while license suspended after deputies conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 39 at mile-marker 104. Dray also was cited for no insurance. Dray was released at the scene and will appear in court at a later date.
Ashlee Parisi, 31, of Oregon, was arrested at 9:21 p.m. for two counts of possession of a controlled substance (crack/cocaine and Adderall) and possession of drug equipment after deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Washington Street (Illinois 64) and River Road. Parisi also was issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, expired registration and two equipment violations. Parisi was transported to the Ogle County Jail.
Dec. 31
Elexus Soto, 27, of Rochelle, was cited for speeding and fleeing to elude a police officer after deputies attempted to stop Soto on Interstate 88 for speeding at 109 mph. Soto fled from deputies north on Interstate 39 and then west on Illinois Route 38. Soto’s vehicle was stopped near the Dement Road intersection after it was disabled as a result of striking the center concrete median. Soto was released on an I-Bond and will appear in court at a later date.
James Malik, 30, of Moline, was arrested at 2 a.m. for driving while license suspended after deputies conducted a traffic stop on Mud Creek Road at Indian Heights Drive. Malik was released on scene and will appear in court at a later date.
Michael P. Labay, 35, of Rockford, was arrested at 2:05 a.m. for driving while under the influence of alcohol after deputies stopped him in the 9000 block of North Kishwaukee Road. Labay also was cited for speeding 26-34 mph over the speed limit and improper lane use. Labay was transported to the Ogle County Jail. The Byron Police Department assisted deputies.
Sara D. Wyant, 38, of Mt. Morris, was arrested at 9:46 p.m. for not having a valid driver’s license, improper container of cannabis/driver and an outstanding Ogle County arrest warrant for failure to appear after deputies stopped her in the 3000 block of Illinois Route 2. Wyant also was cited for no rear registration light and operating uninsured motor vehicle. Wyant was taken into custody without incident, transported to the Ogle County Jail.
Jan. 1
About 6:30 a.m., deputies and Lynn-ScottRock Fire Protection District and EMS responded to Interstate 39 mile-marker 106 for a single vehicle crash and found a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee facing north in the west ditch.
Contact was made with the driver, Nathan Iverson, 30, of Rockton. Iverson complained of a hand injury and was treated by EMS personnel and then transported to Rochelle Community Hospital.
After an investigation, it is believed Iverson fell asleep before traveling off the roadway where the Jeep overturned coming to rest upright. Iverson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and no valid insurance.
Dennis W. Lackey, 47, of DeKalb, was arrested at 10:22 a.m. for driving while license revoked after deputies stopped him in the 1600 block of North River Road. Lackey was transported to the Ogle County Jail. single vehicle crash on Interstate 39 at mile-marker 103. An investigation showed Lilian Conley, 19, of Racine, Wisconsin, slid off the roadway due to roadway conditions. Conley traveled roughly 100 yards before driving over a cement culvert and crashing into a ravine. Conley was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Thaddeus Stokes, 30, of Chicago, was arrested at 1:54 p.m. for not having a valid driver’s license after deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Illinois Route 64 and Chamberlain Road. Stokes also was cited for speeding. Stokes was released on an I-Bond.
Kilian Atabong, 26, of Snellville, Georgia, was arrested at 6:13 p.m. for driving while license suspended after deputies responded to the 14000 block of Illinois Route 72 for a report of a car in the south ditch. Atabong also was cited for failure to reduce speed and improper lane use. Atabong was given an I-Bond with a return court date.
Michael Donald, 41, of Omaha, Nebraska, was arrested at 9:18 p.m. for driving on a revoked license after deputies conducted a traffic stop at Freeport and White Oak roads. Donald also was cited for speeding and was released on a notice to appear.
Jan. 3
Nathaniel Banister, 18, of Leaf River, was arrested at 1:20 a.m. for aggravated battery after deputies were dispatched to 504 E. Third St. in Leaf River for a report of a battery. Banister was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ogle County Jail.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
