Sheriff Arrests From B3 stop near the intersection of Illinois 72 and Fork Creek Road. Koser was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond. Feb. 5 At approximately 3:45 a.m., deputies responded to the intersection of Illinois 26 and Woosung Road for the report of a motorist assist. After further investigation, Melissa Shaw, 36, Dixon,
was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Shaw was transported to the Ogle County Jail where she was held in lieu of bond. Feb. 6 Paul Davis, 36, Rockford, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for failure to appear. His bond was reduced to $100 full cash and he is scheduled to appear again in court on Feb. 9.

Justin W. Rains, 28, Rochelle, was arrested on an outstanding Ogle County warrant for disregarding a traffic control signal. Rains posted 10% of a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 24. Feb. 7 Christina Pelayo, 39, Rochelle, was arrested on a warrant for criminal trespass to land. Her bond was set at $3,000 (10%) pending a Feb. 7 court appearance.
G. Maynard Hammer George Maynard Hammer, 93, Polo, died on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris, with family by his side. Maynard was born on Jan. 15, 1924 in Lincoln Township, Ogle County, the son of George M. and Sarah May “Sadie” (Zumdahl) Hammer. He married Vernabell Quest on March 28, 1948. She died in August of 1982. Maynard then met and later married Doris (Flessner) Frayser on Feb. 6, 1986. He was a fourth generation farmer in the Ogle County area. Maynard was a lifelong member of the Polo Church of the Brethren, and volunteered at the Polo Area Senior Center. He enjoyed woodworking, making wooden toys and birdhouses, and volunteering
his services as a carpenter and builder for local community projects. Survivors include wife, Doris; sons, John (Debbie) Hammer, Norcross, Georgia, and Steven (Lila) Hammer, North Manchester, Indiana; daughter, Beth (Bix Morgan) Hammer, Oregon, Wisconsin; and step-daughter Pam (Eric) Kuchenmeister, Hudson; sister, Norma Stuff, Polo; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Eric) Wester,
Martin R. Whetsel Martin R. Whetsel, 73, Oregon, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at The Villa at PA Peterson, Rockford. He was born on Dec. 30, 1943 in Oregon, the son of Roy and Sarah (Moss) Whetsel. Martin graduated from Oregon High School and Southern Illinois University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served his country in the U.S. Navy at Officer’s Training where he became a commander. Martin loved to fish, hunt,
William Whitmore William “Bill” Whitmore, 60, Mt. Morris, died on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at his home. Bill was born on March 8, 1956 in Oregon, the son of Jack and Alice (Bellows) Whitmore. He served in the U.S. Army.
