RHStrack teams help sandbag in R apids City

Riverdale High School’s track teams took a breakfrompractice Wednesday, April 26, and went to Rapids City to help with sandbagging. As the Mississippi River nearsrecordhigh levels, the village’s sewerlift station on 14th Street was in danger from therising waters The track teams and coaches filled up sandbags and placed themaround the lift station to help protect the village’s infrastructure. The village of Rapids City B oard and the Public Works Depar tment are thankful to the students for helping the communit y andre sidents in their time of need

TheDociaStreetlift stationremote monitoringsystemisupandrunningand ha s beenbeneficia l an d cost-effectiv e fo r thevillagesofar.Fundswereallocatedin thisyear’sbudgettohavetheremotemonitoringsysteminstalledontheremaining twoliftstations.IronCladITprovidedabid for each of these systems, totaling $6,467.12. The boardapproved spending up to $6,500 for the installation of the remote monitoring systems at both the Jackson Street and StinerAvenueliftstations.

Funding for two Mai n Stre et project s approved ea r lierthi s ye ar also wer e d iscussed because of specific guidelines when us ing M FT f un ds an d AmericanRescue Plan Act (COVID-19 relief) funds. ARPA funds can be designated to reimburse the genera l f und fo r payroll , whic h in turn frees u p som e genera l fund d olla rs to be used a t the b oard’sdi scre tion.The boar d decided that the curb and gutter project will be paid for from the general fund and the c rack s ealing pro jec t w ill be pai d for from the MFT account. Both road projects arescheduledtobecompletedthisyear.
