a Walgreen’s related store in 1946. Located at 317 E. Lincoln Highway for many years, Lehan’s moved to its current location at 1407 South 4th Street in 1991. In 2008, a second location was opened in the DeKalb Clinic, 1850 Gateway Drive, Suite A, Sycamore. Tim Lehan said Jon is preparing to open a third store in Rockford in April. Currently, Lehan’s employs 50 people. In presenting family members with the Business of the Year Award at the Chamber’s Annual Dinner on February 28, Chairwoman Wendy West-Krauch cited the business’s compassion for treating its customers as well as constantly addressing the community’s needs by expanding their services. Besides the pharmacy, for which they’re probably best known, Lehan’s other services include customized medicine, hormone replacement therapy, medication therapy management, vaccinations, women’s health and a medical disposal system. One of those services, which was started about 10 years ago, is called medicine therapy management. To help patients keep track of what medicines they should be taking on a daily basis, pharmacists provide them with pill packs filled with the appropriate medications divided by

the days of the week. Another service is called compounded medications. Working closely with a patient and their physician, the pharmacists work in their state of the art laboratory to make sure the patient gets the proper medication when they need it. “It’s a high tech way to customize medicine,” Jim Lehan said. “They’re a great business for the community,” Executive Director of the DeKalb Chamber Jim Allen said of the home grown business. “They set a great example for other businesses.” “We have a lot to be proud of,” Tim Lehan said. “We love coming to work every day.” With a proud smile, he adds that “the pieces are in place” for future generations to continue running the business. Every few family-run businesses make it to the third generation, let alone the fourth like theirs. The Business of the Year Award, which is determined by DeKalb Chamber Members, was first handed out in 1992.
