R ichmond, a community that blends old and new, was first settled in 1837 by William McConnell, who spent his first night under an oak tree that still stands today. Incorporated on September 2, 1872, with Dr. Fillmore Bennett, a poet, the first principal of Richmond grade school and elected first Village President, Richmond has seen many changes but has never lost its old world Richmondcharm.has been put on the map as an up-and-coming restaurant district that hosts a variety of unique, family-owned and local eateries. From sandwiches to fine dining, there is something for everyone. Perfectly polished boutiques have sprung up alongside the lively nightlife scene. S itting on 7,100 acres of land connecting 15 lakes and 45 miles of rivers, Fox Lake is proud to be considered the “Heart of the Chain O’Lakes.” Incorporated on Dec. 15, 1906, Fox Lake is home to 10,978 residents who embrace it’s a rich tradition and history, while simultaneously striving for progress. The Village boasts natural scenery, unique businesses, delectable eateries, and unlimited waterway recreation. An aquatic sanctuary, Fox Lake is home to ten exceptional marinas, offering over 1,000 boat slips. Every year the Village welcomes over 230,000 unique visitors by boat. Residents and visitors alike enjoy boating, boat races, various watersports, and year-round fishing. Fox Lake hosts dozens of community events including the Farmer’s Market, Friday Night Summer Concert Series, Fox Lake Triathlon, Fox Lake Bloody Mary Fest, and many more. Thousands of people come together to “Celebrate Fox Lake,” the Village’s Annual Independence Day parade, followed by an evening of food, drinks, live music, and the best fireworks display in the area. The Village is diligently cultivating strategic partnerships with developers and investors who share the same vision of growth for the village. Mayor Donny Schmit and the Village Board are an inclusive and welcoming governing body that promotes a businessfriendly environment. The Village Board consists of the Mayor, six Trustees, and a Village Clerk. The Board convenes on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, at 7:00 p.m. at the Village Hall, located at 66 Thillen Drive. The Board encourages community engagement and welcomes participation from residents and community stakeholders. All meetings are open to the public.

T he Village of Volo is one of the fastest-growing communities in Illinois. Incorporated in 1993 with 280 residents, Volo has quickly grown to over 6,100 residents. Volo is home to the Volo Museum, a fun, family-friendly museum with more than 33 awe-inspiring exhibits, and Jurassic Gardens, a thrilling experience with moving, life-like, animatronic dinosaurs. The FWA is currently working on several exciting initiatives to bring in much needed additional funding to further enhance our abilities to remove an estimated 100,000+ cubic yards of sedimentation that enter our waterway each year and minimize future sedimentation.
