Pinwheels for Prevention event is on April 1
The Polo Women’s Club will once again participate in the Pinwheels For Prevention Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. GFWC Illinois Polo Women’s Club partners with Prevent Child Abuse Illinois to spread the message that everyone can help promote great childhoods in their community. Pinwheels (blue and silver) are nationally recognized symbols of child abuse prevention and symbolize hope. The Polo Women’s Club brings public awareness by annually planting pinwheel gardens at the Paul Grahling Park , Centennial Grade School, Applington Middle School, and the Polo Community High School each April. This year’s event will take place at noon on Thursday, April 1. “We will
begin our planting at the Paul Grahling Park (corner of Mason St./Division Ave.) with Mayor Doug Knapp reading a proclamation from the City of Polo recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Please attend to show your support,” said Beth Green, GFWC Illinois Polo Women’s Club member. Pinwheels For Prevention has been held since its first presidential proclamation in 1983 with millions of Americans participating in public awareness
that all children deserve to grow up in happy and healthy environments. With awareness, education, and support, the community working together can have an incredible impact on preventing child abuse. As a reminder, the simple pinwheel should compel us to report suspected abuse (1-800-25-ABUSE) and protect all children. Clint continues to relax during his leave. For the past couple of weeks, my class in Rockford has been learning remotely. This has given Clint and I even more time together. This week, our class is on spring break. On Thursday and Friday, Clint spent some time with a high school friend who lives in DeKalb. This past Saturday evening, Clint and I joined my brother, Ben, his wife, Jo, and their son, Garrett, for dinner and a night of games. We have started cleaning out Clint’s things. We are sorting and packing his things from his room. Now that my children are moved out of the house, I am making plans for the rest of the unused space. The university has announced their plans for an in-person graduation ceremony this spring. With each passing week, we get closer to sharing in the normal activities of over a year ago. I am very excited to celebrate all the hard work of my colleagues and friends. With the start of the spring season, we are once again filled with hope. The season brings longer hours of sunlight, new blooms, and the return of spring robins.
We know that spring means brighter days are ahead. After a year of the pandemic, we are seeing signs of hope that soon this will all be over. The high school started its football season with a win and homecoming festivities. The hope of a new sports season rests with the coaches, athletes, and fans. Just like the seeds waiting for the warm sunshine and gentle spring rains, our hope has been quietly working in the dark. Even when it seemed that our hope was lost, it was still there. When we know God, our faith and hope continue to grow. Hope is what carries us through the dark nights, the cloudy days, the long and lonely days of a pandemic, and the weeks and months between visits. Because we have seen what God can do, our hope lives on. My hope continues to be that we will meet again in church on Sunday morning. Each week, we are gathering in person to join together in praise and worship. There is room in our church for you and your family.

PINE CREEK NEWS BY KAREN MERLAK The long-awaited spring season is here. The beautiful weather did not disappoint over the weekend. Running errands becomes a real treat when driving with the windows open. For each fresh new start, we give our thanks to God. This morning in church, we were greeted by Sandra Ford. Pastor Charlotte Hoppe gave a new message for the Lenten season. Recently, Charlotte announced she would be retiring later this year. We have been very lucky to have this time with her. Charlotte continues to offer a midweek prayer service on our Facebook page. Our regular church services can be found on Facebook each week. By following our page, you will be notified when our church is live. This past Tuesday evening, our PEO Chapter DW held their spring social via zoom. I wasn’t able to attend the meeting filled with fun activities. I miss seeing my sisters. Several have been in touch, showing their continued support of my educational endeavors.
