Glenbard program to focus on selecting colleges By SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA msleditorial@shawmedia.com CAROL STREAM — Glenbard฀ Township฀ High฀ School฀ District 87 students and parents are invited to attend “Start Early, Start Smart, Career Exploration — Keys to Success for the College Years” presented by Peg Hendershot,฀executive฀director฀of฀Career฀Vision฀in฀Glen฀ Ellyn.

This workshop will take place between 10:30 a.m. and noon Saturday at Glenbard North฀ High฀ School,฀ 990฀ N.฀ Kuhn Road in Carol Stream (enter door 1). This final Glenbard Parent Series’ Saturday event of the school year will assist students and parents in career exploration to achieve success and job satisfaction. The topics include the benefits of the Career Literacy

program; why early career exploration can save time, money and frustration; and what to consider when selecting a college major. Students also will receive tips to evaluate their college choices from a career perspective. Career Literacy involves the basic knowledge and skills that everyone needs to make career decisions in the 21st century.

All are welcome to attend. There will be free babysitting and continental breakfast in addition to a special pre-meeting welcome for English language learner parents. DuPage County expands ethics training to appointed officials By SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA msleditorial@shawmedia.com In an effort to increase transparency and accountability, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin recently joined fellow elected and appointed officials for an ethics training seminar. The seminar is significant as it is the first time that the county’s appointed officials participated in the annual training. “The ethics training for all county officials — elected and appointed — is an important step in ensuring everyone follows the same rules and regulations as we strive to make DuPage County a leader in government

Last year’s comprehensive review of the county’s 24 independent agencies unveiled that many of these entities lacked an ethics ordinance or maintained policies that did not include key provisions in the county’s ordinance such as political contributions, contractor disclosure or conflict of interest. In an effort to rectify the policy findings, Cronin introduced the DuPage ACT Initiative (Accountability, Consolidation and Transparency) that provided an opportunity for these agencies to make structural and operational reforms including adoption of the ethics ordinance. The Board of Education unanimously approved the revised calendar — a reflection of the widespread support it received from the community. Thank you to all of the U-46 family members who shared their input. Together, we crafted a calendar that served the best interests of all.
