ICPI Workforce Development
Like many other construction industries, the hardscape industry faces a critical labor shortage. To help generate positive awareness of the industry and its lucrative career paths, ICPI is developing a wide variety of materials and resources promoting careers in hardscaping independently, and in partnership with the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) and the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA).
The @Hardscapingis social media campaign, supported by ICPI and NCMA, targets individuals age 17-20 and their parents. Messages promote hardscaping as a college alternative—not a desk job—and a career that pays. While aimed at younger audiences, promotional material developed for parents provides facts about the industry and college/training options for those who want to work in hardscaping.
On the Cue Career website platform, ICPI developed a page promoting hardscaping careers. This platform exposes teens to the wide variety of career options. The ICPI page includes basics about the career options and interviews with successful hardscaping business people.
ICPI joined forces with NALP on its Landscape Industry Careers website, adding hardscaping to the list of careers in the green industry. Contractors also have access to the job board on this website to advertise open positions in their companies.
Certified Pavement Installer (CPI) courses are also available at post-secondary schools.
