I am a graphic designer as well as an educator. The very nature of graphic design (GD) is social, that GD practitioners have to deal with different range of issues. I believe that they are at the forefront of making the world a better place for all. This implies that GD practitioners should be very concerned about their influential roles, which certainly together with particular social responsibility (SR). Though designers have the power to influence people, the vital question is how should they react to the SR issues in GD practices? Since GD education is closely attached to the question of producing effective designers, the educational practices cannot escape from undertaking the role of fostering the sense of SR among GD students. In this regard, I wish to go beyond the traditional views and domains of GD education, which focuses primarily on skills acquisition, and to raise the sense of SR among students.
