What is It? Community Connections provides free energy tests on refrigerators and freezers more than five years old. If appliances are found to use more energy than they should, we will replace them! We also replace all lightbulbs in your home with energy efficient LED bulbs. These use far less energy and are brighter than oldfashioned incandescent bulbs.

Inefficient appliances drive up your energy costs and can even spoil your food! Inadequate lighting can be more expensive as well as uncomfortable for you.

Who is Eligible?

The household must be living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line. For 2022, 200% of the FPL is $55,500 for a family of four. These guidelines are updated annually. Call LCCAA to make certain you qualify. Participants also must own the refrigerator or freezer being assessed. You must be a customer of Ohio Edison and have 12 months of service in your name. Documentation requirements include: ► Proof of income for the last 30 days for everyone in the household over 18. ► Current electric bill. ► Copy of photo ID. ► Social Security Cards for all household members. If you are currently on PIPP (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) or HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Plan), your application information can be used for Community Connections as well, as long as it is within the last year.

What if I’m a Renter? If you rent your home but own your refrigerator, you may still be eligible for Community Connections. The landlord needs to verify the tenant owns the appliance. Your landlord will also need to sign a liability waiver.

Special Projects LCCAA has facilitated the replacement of hundreds of appliances in three subsidized housing complexes. Residents of Pearl Village, Westgate Gardens and Harr Plaza have new refrigerators thanks to the cooperative efforts of their landlords LCCAA and Ohio Partners for Affordable Energy.

‘This program has been a blessing for our residents.’ -Michael Volpe, Manager, Harr Plaza

What About COVID? As long as the threat of spreading COVID-19 remains, we are taking extra measures of care when we visit your home to audit and/or replace your appliances and lightbulbs. Our auditor will: ► Visit only one home per day. ► Wear a mask and booties. ► Clean anything he touches. Our office will call you prior to your appointment to verify you are not exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms.

Energy Saving Tips ► Turn off anything you’re not using: lights, electronics, etc. ► Use task lighting where you can instead of lighting entire rooms. ► Don’t block vents or baseboard heaters with furniture or drapes. ► Lower thermostat settings at night or when you’re not home. ► Use cold water for laundry and keep your dryer’s lint trap clean.

Spoiled food? Frozen eggs? High electric bill? Community Connections might be for you. Call to find out if you qualify.
