On April 16, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) Board of Education approved

the resignation of CHCCS Superintendent Pam Baldwin; her resignation will go into effect on June 30. She has been in this role since 2017, and during her tenure, she has lowered the opportunity and performance gaps in schools for underserved students between 3%-5.8%. SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals welcomed Georgie Clemens as its volunteer

services manager on March 2. She manages the volunteer program and oversees the Family House’s expansion.

IN OUR SCHOOLS Several UNC graduate programs received high rankings on the 2020 U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” list in March. The Eshelman School of Pharmacy was ranked the No. 1 pharmacy school, the School of Medicine ranked No. 1 for primary care and ranked in specialty areas as well. The School of Nursing, KenanFlagler Business School, the School of Law, the School of Education, the School of Government’s Master of Public Administration program and The Graduate School were also named on the top 100 list. UNC School of Law professor John V. Orth went viral on Twitter in late March for recording his class lectures in an empty classroom with only a Pinocchio doll. John has taught at 12

In March, Durham Technical Community College donated medical supplies to UNC Health to aid coronavirus efforts. The group donated more than 3,000 individual supplies, including gowns, masks, protective eyewear, disposable gloves and hand sanitizer. covered Super Tuesday on March 3. Teresa has been a writer for the Scholastic Kids Press since 2018 and has also covered a rally in Durham for Bernie Sanders, a campaign event for former Vice President Joe Biden and interviewed former presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

GIVING BACK Carolina For The Kids Foundation (CFTK) hosted its UNC Dance Marathon virtually

in March due to the spread of COVID-19. CFTK raised more than $250,000 for patients and families at UNC Children’s Hospital. Participating dancers were asked to raise $24 in honor of the 24 hours they would have stood at Dance Marathon. The

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools served over 17,000 meals to more than 1,000 students during a week in March. CHCCS partnered with bus drivers and local organizations to ensure that children in the district were fed. Partner groups include The Chapel of the Cross, Christ United Methodist Church, Church of Reconciliation and other faith communities. Chapel Hill-based real estate company Real Estate Experts intends to plant 5,000 trees to help reforestation efforts. For each real estate transaction made, the company will donate $50 to American Forests, and clients will receive a certificate at closing stating the trees were planted in their name.
