5 TOP GOLF DESTINATIONS NEAR SHAKOPEE 1) The Wilds Golf Club Located near Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, MN, The Wilds Golf Club is set amongst a spectacular landscape of trees, lakes, and hills. The 7,025-yard course has wide fairways, multiple sets of trees, water in play on half the holes, and 70 strategically placed bunkers. The course also offers wonderful views outside in nature, including the Minneapolis skyline in the distance, or the beautiful homes which adorn the course. This is definitely a golf destination for people of all skill levels to enjoy. After your round, enjoy some upscale dining at the clubhouse, or take in their delicious Sunday brunch.

2) The Meadows at Mystic Lake Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake is a full service resort which houses a beautiful 18-hole championship course. The Meadows at Mystic Lake is a nationally acclaimed public golf course, offering a unique experience to the golfer. This challenging, but fun, course landscape includes waterfalls, native plants, and statuary. It is a spectacular, well-maintained golfing experience. The course also offers a full swing indoor golf simulator, or unlimited driving range for people looking at working on their game before hitting the links.

10 Visit Shakopee 2018 Visitor’s Guide

After your game, grab a bite to eat and a wonderful Minnesota brewed craft beer at The Meadows Bar and Grille – whether inside watching one of their many televisions or out on the beautiful patio. Or venture into the casino to eat at The Buffet, or try your luck at one of the many gaming options available.

3) Stonebrooke Golf Club Located in Shakopee, Stonebrooke Golf Club was created to give people a complete golf experience. This course has great elevation changes, mature trees, and a unique mix of great golf holes. One of the things that makes Stonebrooke really stand out, though, is the famous 8th hole. This hole, voted as one of the best holes in Minnesota, makes you bring your A-Game. What makes this hole so unique is that your first shot must carry at least 180-yards over O’Dowd Lake. Once you take your initial shot, you will hop on a ferry and cross over the lake to the fairway waiting on the other side. This hole encompasses the 10,000 lakes feel of Minnesota. Or, if you just want to get in a quick 9, try out Stonebrooke’s Executive nine-hole, Water’s Edge. Once finished with your golf outing, enjoy some great appetizers on either their beautiful patio, overlooking the waterfall or hole 10, or in their restaurant.

4) Ridges at Sand Creek Located in nearby Jordan, Minnesota, Ridges at Sand Creek is a terrific destination for any golf enthusiast. Ridges at Sand Creek opened in 2000 and, since its opening, has won many different local and national awards, including 2009 Golf Course of the year by Midwest Golf Course, and it is the only public course from Minnesota to be selected in Golf World’s Readers Choice Top 50 in 2010. What makes Sand Creek stand out is the way it is setup. After the first few holes you make your way down into an old river valley. In the valley is where you truly get to enjoy the nature, with creeks running through the many wooded areas located throughout the course. This experience is very unique, and brings a serene and isolated sense to being on the course. It is truly a treat to golf this course and have the feeling of getting away from it all. After golf, enjoy a beverage and meal at the restaurant located on-site. Or, make the short drive to Shakopee and check out some of the great and local restaurants in the area!

Hold on Tight 5) Legends Golf Club Legends Golf Club, located in Prior Lake, Minnesota, is a true favorite. One of the great things about Legends GC is, even though it is a public course, you get the feel of a private club experience with its amenities and quality. One of the great holes is hole 13. This is a difficult, long par 3. First, you need to make sure you can carry the long first shot over the water. You need to be extremely accurate on your shot because, if you are too long or off to the sides, you will end up in the trees. Hole 13 is just one of many terrific holes on the course, and is a wonderful time for any golfer. After your round, take time to stop and have something to eat and drink in their beautiful bar and restaurant, or enjoy the Minnesota summer weather out on their patio, which has wonderful views of the course. Apple farms are abundant throughout the Minnesota River Valley region, with many just minutes outside of Shakopee. Minnesota Harvest near Jordan, MN offers over 25 different varieties of apples to pick during their harvest season. Because of their over three decade breeding program, they also offer what are called “Topper’s Apples”, which are only grown at Minnesota Harvest! Your day begins as you arrive at this picturesque farm and make your way to their main building where you will have the opportunity

to take in the smells of freshly baked apple pastries, pies, and more. On the weekends, you can also check out the weekend brunch buffet or head over to the specialty stores located within the building. After purchasing your apple-picking bag, for only $20, head to the tractor-pulled Orchard Limo for the short ride through the trails to the apples. The knowledgeable staff will let you know which apples are available to pick and which ones will be best for pies or eating. After you are dropped off, you can venture throughout the lines of apple trees, picking the best ones you can find. You are free to taste and sample all the different varieties as you pick!

Taste the area’s natural bounty at local vineyards and wineries.

Once finished filling your bag(s), you can hop back on the Orchard Limo and head back to the main area where there are great attractions for the kids to enjoy. Head over to the petting zoo and see the ducks, donkeys, goats, and more. Make sure to check out the apple slingshot, large playground, large display of pumpkins later in the fall, bonfires in the evening, or special vendors and musicians who may be serving food or playing music during your weekend visit to the orchard.

Fall Cleanup! The SMSC Organics Recycling Facility (ORF) is part of the SMSC’s larger goal of being a good steward of the earth. The ORF accepts organic materials — like paper, food, and yard waste — from residential, commercial and municipal customers. They take what may have been tossed into a landfill and instead create high-quality compost, compost blends, and colored mulch in an environmentally friendly way.
