TALLIS TV EVALUATION by Sam Johnson We divided the different topics into sections that we as individuals would research upon in order to make It less confusing and more concentrated work load. We did this to save time and to give ourselves each something to concentrate on, but also to save time in order to give us more time to film and edit the final product. We all gathered information by researching on the internet and asking people around school about facts on the certain topics we were talking about, we also wanted information about our topics such as capita, we talked about the history of capita so if people didn’t know who they were, they would have had more information about them. For the episode we wanted to interview staff around the school, we would get in touch with them a week before the interview and find out if they were free at a certain time to be interviewed, we also interviewed students around the school to ask what they thought of the changes of the school, this idea was inspired by TV news shows where they interview random people in the public to see what they think about a certain situation. Arranging the interviews went well apart from one which was with an LSA staff member, as other things come up when the interviews were meant to take place, if would have rearranged it at a different time we could have done the interview, but in hindsight the episode was very long and we had enough footage to complete the episode successfully We went out and filmed our presenter links, we filmed them relating to the topic that was up next, for example before the links topic we filmed the transition on the links, and for the unused faculties segment we filmed it outside the gym which is currently not being used. Filming the links went well until we realized when editing the footage that we forgot to film some segments so Salma (our team member) went out and filmed some on her own, this was good in some ways as she appeared on screen and made It look like their was more presenters on the show. When we did our pitch to the whole class, there was some criticism, mainly about our topics being quite controversial, people said that staff might not tell the truth in interviews about certain subjects as it may put their jobs in risk or cause problems. We decided to film the whole show as planned even with the feedback we received, we changed some of the questions to not make it as controversial as it first was, this made the episode look how we wanted and also made the answers more easy for the people being interviewed. For the edit we decided to each edit a segment to save time and also so it doesn’t look rushed. I took the lead on the community section of the

programme in which I had many responsibilities. One these was editing the Mr Dean video. This was quite hard because I had to pick footage that would work well in producing the point I wanted to make but also to make the speech flow. One of the most difficult parts of this process was the timescale. We only had a week and a half to edit the piece so it was quite intense, If I was to do this again, I would make more time. We had to use subtitles for our video, I wanted to have a sign language man/woman in the corner signing as the video went along, I wanted to do this as it would have been quicker and would have been better for deaf people to watch, without reading off the screen. If someone was to do another rebranded episode of Tallis TV, I would recommend they talk about topics people are talking about at that current time, it will make the episode more relevant and it will be something people can relate to.
