CURLEYMURPHY ’75 Commencement Speaker
Catherine Curley Murphy was born in Richmond and has lived here her whole life. She comes from a family of five, all of whom attended SGHS or Benedictine. She has a strong family legacy, with most of her aunts and uncles attending either SGHS or BHS during the 1940s and 1950s. Further, her husband is a BHS graduate—the second youngest of twelve siblings, all of whom also attended SGHS or BHS. Her son graduated from BHS in 2009, and her grandson is currently a sophomore. While at SGHS, Catherine served as senior class president and has led the coordination of the Class of 1975 reunions every five years. Catherine has been a nurse since 1985 and a nurse practitioner since 2006. Most of her career has been in hospital settings, specifically in Cardiology. She began her career at VCU Health Center (formerly MCV), then spent 19 years at the VA Medical Center. After completing her graduate studies, she worked in various acute care settings, most recently at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center for 13 years. She retired from full-time work in 2022 but continues to work part-time in a private Cardiology practice. She has two grandchildren who live with her, keeping her and her husband very busy. In her spare time, she enjoys golf, pickleball, bike riding, kayaking, gardening, puzzling and spending time near water—basically, anything outdoors! Catherine has been a member of the SGHS alumni committee as her class representative and was honored to lead the alumni at the 2025 Song Contest.
