A DAY IN SEWARD

There are plenty of reasons to spend a day in Seward and the midnight sun makes day trips possible from Anchorage. Check out the Alaska SeaLife Center, explore historic downtown, hunt for murals painted by local ar tists, watch the salmon run, take a half-day cruise in Resurrection Bay, enjoy fresh local seafood, or take a few casts from shore. Around Exit Glacier, hit the trails, go on a half-day ice hiking trip, or join a ranger for a nature walk. Other excursions that are doable in a shor ter day include half-day kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, flightseeing, dog sledding and kennel tours, guided hiking, and ziplining.

A WEEKEND IN SEWARD

A couple extra days allow you to dive beneath the surface of Seward. A full-day marine wildlife tour will take you deep into Kenai Fjords National Park where you’ll see tidewater glaciers, harbor seals resting on floating ice, impressive rock formations, and countless birds. 46 | PL A N

Reserve one of the state’s public use cabins and overnight in the remote wilderness or char ter an overnight cruise to explore the fjords by water. Back in town, find your favorite coffee house, listen to live music at local bars, and dine on delicious Alaska fare from local chefs.

A WEEK IN SEWARD

You’ll start to feel like a local after an extended stay. Not only will you fully appreciate the activities listed above with a more relaxed itinerary, you’ll have time for more spectacular forays into the wilderness. Book a multi-day kayak excursion and fall asleep to the sounds of glaciers calving. Stay in a remote cabin or yur t and wake up with the wildlife. Char ter a multi-day cruise and explore secret coves. Access par ts of the fjords that few get to see while staying in luxurious wilderness lodges. Back in Seward, you’ll have time to explore more trails, try more restaurants, and meet more locals before packing your bags to return home.
