Howard Wentworth Wheeler, Jr., 68, passed away at his home in Annapolis, May 28, following an illness of several months. Howard was born in Baltimore in 1941. Howard played varsity football and lacrosse at Severn and was also on the lacrosse team at the Univ. of MD. He played for the Olde Severna Park “Bengals” of the U.S. Club Lacrosse Association and served for many years as a board member of the club, including president in ’74-’75. Howard enjoyed attending meetings of the Severna Park Old Timers Association and annual Severn reunions. His other interests included reading, music, solving crossword and Sudoko puzzles, researching family genealogy and following the fortunes of the Terrapins, Orioles, Ravens, Yankees, and local and collegiate lacrosse. He was an original member of the Greater Severna Park Athletic Association “Green Hornets” (he was one of the boys who selected “Green Hornets” as a nickname after a popular radio series character of the day). He played football, baseball, and basketball alongside county

sports luminaries such as Clayton “Bud” Beardmore, the late John Codd, Tony Domenech, Dick and Lee Curry and Joe Stewart. He was an Army Reserve Veteran and earned the Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Ribbon and Marksmanship Badges.

Robert writes: “I will start with some very good news and that is Don Stein is alive and well in California. We hope to be able to get some contact information for Don so possibly he can be at our 50th. n Johan Trumpy wrote to let us know that he and Susan were married last October at their home in Florida. Johan notes that “the picture is our entrance to the wedding in our backyard, just family in attendance. Other than that there is nothing new and all is well”. Congratulations to you both! We will all look forward to meeting Susan! n Jon Englander sent the following note to our class: ‘I retired last April from the Cleveland Clinic after 17 years, and joined a Pittsburgh consulting firm, MedCom Solutions, specializing in the hospital and physician charge cycles. My last assignment at Cleveland Clinic was particularly interesting, if anyone saw one of Obama’s visits there on the news. I coordinated the project that now moves all materials underground from a service center to the main hospital by robots. I still live in Shaker Heights with Marlene, have two grandchildren, Jenna and Cody, through my son

David. My daughter Samantha, whom some of you met at a reunion at Bill’s, graduated from UNC, and is now doing graduate work in Seattle at the University of Washington. Life is good.’ n It’s hard to believe in 2012 we will celebrate our 50th. It will be here before you know it! I hope everyone is in good health and enjoying life as much as I am. Thanks to Jon and Johan for the input!”

Sandy tells Bridge readers: “I was very impressed with the “New Severn” that I saw at Alumni Weekend. It has a wonderful phyical plant now, but without losing the underlying principles of education, integrity, honor and leadership that Mr. Teel instilled in 1914. Severn has given so much to so many. I encourage my classmates to keep the traditions alive by contributing what they can.”

The Bridge received this news from Ed Rodgers - who had been a “lost” alum. He claims he has always know where he was! ‘Well, summarizing where I have been the last 42 years is going to take a few lines. After graduation, I moved to Florida and received a BS degree in marketing from the University of West Florida in 1972. I went into the golf business in southwest Florida as a golf professional and became a PGA member in 1976. In 1984, I went to work for a land development company in the area as a golf professional, worked my way up to become a VP in the company before starting my own company back in 2005. I bought a land development company and golf course in the mountains of North Carolina and have been here ever since. I gave up my interest in the company earlier this summer and am looking for my next business venture. Along the way, I got married (still married to the same lady - don’t know why she puts up with me), had two children (boys) that are grown and well into their careers. So that’s where I have been for the last 42 years. I was in Maryland a few years back and drove by the campus to see all the changes and show my kids where dad went to school. Things looked great and I am glad to hear that Severn is thriving. I still have some family in the area and if I get back up your way, I’ll stop by and say hello.’
