THE skatepark on Stour Meadows at Blandford St Mary was the scene of a Skate Fest hosted by King Ramps with demonstrations, competitions and workshops for skaters and riders of all ages. The event was funded by Blandford Town Council, and councillors assisted with stewarding, while refreshments were provided by various local groups, including Treads youth advice centre and Blandford Youth & Community Centre, who also offered information about their services and activities. • Pictured: Dean Robertson demonstrates a blunt one-foot trick.

United’s solid start AFTER an unbeaten start to the season with four wins, including an 85 away victory after extra time against Bournemouth Sports in a Dorset Premier League Cup preliminary round tie, Blandford United lost 2-0 to Dorset Sports at home in their Dorset Premier League match on September 11. But Blandford's new first-team leader Josh Feirn, who moved up following the departure of Andy Savage, was not downhearted, recognising that their opponents had notched four wins from their first six games and were a very experienced side. The first-team were due to meet Hamworthy Rec away in the Dorset Premier League on September 18, and again in the Dorset Premier League Cup on September 25. The second team, runners-up last season in the Blackmore Vale League, beat TGR 6-2 away in their first outing of the new league season.

Millie’s the star turn in the bowling finals A BUSY week for Blandford Bowling Club followed the reduction in pandemic restrictions, and on a sunny August 21, the annual knockout competition finals were held. Nine trophies were contested at the Milldown Road green, and the outstanding performance of the year was undoubtedly by 16year-old Millie Tuck, who played in five finals, winning three. Her success included the Ladies' Champion Rose Bowl, which made her the youngest Ladies' champion in the club's history. Her performance was closely matched by junior bowler Nathan Wood, who was successful in three competitions. The Holroyd Bowl men's champion was Steve Tamplin, who defeated Andy Paulley. The final results were: McCrossan Cup (Ladies 2 Wood Singles): Sally Burton beat Catherine Solway (13-12); Warren Cup (Ladies Pairs): Liz

Males & Millie Tuck beat Sally Burton & Daphne West (24-18); Railston Cup (Men's Pairs): Connor Joyce & Carl Budd beat Tim Bryning & Norman Arnold (20-9); Marsh Cup (Men's 2 Wood Singles): Nathan Wood beat Peter Hawkins (16-8); Holroyd Bowl (Men's Singles): Steve Tamplin beat Andy Paulley (23-7); Rose bowl (Ladies Singles): Millie Tuck beat Terri Lake (21-10); Davis Cup: Peter Preen beat Keith Anthony (2220); Bob Charlton Handicap: Nathan Wood beat Millie Tuck (22-12); Roy Wellen Shield: Millie Tuck & Nathan Wood beat Barry & Liz Males (16-13). Three days later the club hosted the second friendly match of the season. Club President, Peter Preen, welcomed Dave Tysoe and his Wolverton Bowling Club team from Buckinghamshire who were on a three-match tour. Seven mixed rinks were contested with the visitors winning by 166 to 123.
