FAIRFAX, VA. - Sophomore Kerrie Kolackovsky (Franklin Square, N.Y.) had a record breaking day to lead the Seton Hall University women’s swimming & diving team on the third day of the 2011 Patriot Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 19, in Fairfax, Va. Kolackovsky broke the Seton Hall University school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle and grabbed a pair of first-place finishes as the Pirates finished in fourth place overall in the team standings with 483.5 points. The University of Maryland Baltimore County won the meet with 1,089 points.

Kolackovsky posted an automatic BIG EAST mark in the 200-yard breaststroke, where she came in fourth with a time of 2:28.68.

Kolackovsky won the grueling 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:55.80, eclipsing the old school record of 16:57.13 that was set by Michelle Ducharme during the 2005-06 season. Kolackovsky was swimming the 1,650 for the first time this year.

Ehret and Kolackovsky teamed with junior Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and senior Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) to post a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:45.72).

She also finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:20.48. Both of her first-place swims met 2012 BIG EAST Championship automatic qualifying standards.

Shuba, Kolackovsky, Virgilio and sophomore Kelly Markwell (Old Bridge, N.J.) made up the Pirates’ fifth-place 200-medley relay (1:51.47) squad in the first event of the day. Markwell also placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.48, which represented an automatic conference championship mark.

The Pirates saw four student-athletes post an automatic BIG EAST mark in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Jane Ehret (Florida, N.Y.) led the way by coming in fourth in 2:05.45.

Junior Andrea Shuba (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also met automatic conference standards in the 100-yard freestyle but her time came from the opening leg of the Pirates’ eighth-place 400-yard freestyle relay team. She finished the opening leg in 54.59. Shuba nearly broke her second school record of the meet, but she fell just fractions of a second shy of that feat, finishing fifth in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.50, which was .03 behind her school record of 2:04.47. Senior Marilyn Purvis (Old Saybrook, Conn.) also had an automatic BIG EAST swim in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:08.40.
