A Future of Values

24

Some of us believe that there is something inherently wrong with us, but there is nothing wrong. I want to create spaces where everyone can freely and fully vibrate in the frequency of their own beings. I envision an inclusive future full of connection, full of love and kindness, full of magical moments, full of healing through dance, music and lights. I am ready to work hard with my endless passion to transform people’s lives through sentient and transformative space experiences.

The value of designing experiences will be more important than ever in the future. As automation is taking over, we have more time to understand what life is about. This is living in the moment and sharing. The future of experience is innovative, sentient and transformative space experiences that allow humanity to reach collective elevation.

e Lov

No matter where we come from, no matter what our realities are, we all need love, the sense of belonging, community, connection and purpose to have a functioning, healthy and balanced life. Sentient and transformative space experiences, like love and kindness, will play a big role in healing our world.

49

Eudaimonia This theme deals with the importance of performance for well-being and the potential of performance in health care. 50

51

Framework of N.O.E.M.A This theme explores the intersection of the concepts of phenomenology and performance.

52

What is real? What is experience?

How can performance change the way people see life and themselves? Are all experiences clouded by our previous experiences, culture and our own realities?

53

Architecting Feelings

54

55

Orchestra of Sensations This theme explores the concept of senses and their place in our lives, performance and well-being. 56

57

Philosophy of Audience This theme deals with the concepts of being present, being mindful and preparing the audience to take in information. 58

How can we make the audience ready/open /present/mindful before a performance?

How can we design the entry point to maximize engagement? How do we reach collective synergy?

59

The Meaning of Everything This theme deals with the concepts of existentialism, the greater impact of performance and purpose.

60

How can performance change the way we see/shape/shift our lives?

Is performance a universal need? Why do you live if you do not feel alive?

Performance

Performance is a universal need and it is interrelated with every aspect of life. Our natural calling for rituals, dance and music remains consistent throughout history, regardless of where we are in the world. Sensory experience is what keeps us connected with our surroundings, ourselves and others. We are sentient beings and we need to live within systems that recognize that. Sentient and transformative space experiences have the power to unite and connect people. This will be the beginning of healing our world, one step at a time.

Imagine that we live in a world where people feel deeply connected to themselves and to their surroundings. Imagine a future where instead of taking medications, we are prescribed experiences. Imagine that we can prevent and treat diseases with experiences. Our understanding of health must change on a fundamental level by reaching a more holistic approach. Our spiritual, mental and physical states are all interrelated. This understanding is the beginning of collective healing, it is a chain reaction in the process of healing our world.

Point

What if we could create a space where our sense of time and space are one?

What if I can create a space that has the ability to communicate and create a relationship with people?

74

75

76

77

DISTANCING I have added a “distancing phase to the 5 steps of experience. This phase distances the audience from their daily lives and ensures that when they enter, they can enter fully present physically and mentally. A distancing phase can have many forms ranging from a meditation session, to a quiet staircase, to a long tunnel or hallway. In the case of Sensorium1, the distancing phase is a quick mindfulness practice. The stronger the responses of the spaces are according to their audiences, the stronger the relationship will be; which will remain the audience present in that moment.

78

Scenario And Maps ATTRACTION

X sees the structure form and gravitates towards it. X is given a set of headphones and the data collecting device. X enters Sensorium1.

DISTANCING X enters and hears -Welcome,- from their headphones. X is guided through a quick meditation session. X is guided towards the second phase.

ENTRY X hears music. X enters Phase 2 fully ready to absorb the experience.

ENGAGEMENT Sensorium1 interacts with X by displaying their heart beat variability data through LEDs as a spectrum of light.

TRANSFORMATION

EXIT

X feels connected, curious and intrigued after seeing the room turn blue, X jumps around to see how that would affect the room.

Exit is not directed. X stays in Sensorium1 and exits whenever X wants.

EXTENSION X feels connected, sees spaces differently and is excited to have more sentient and transformative space experiences.

Technology

I HAVE COLLABORATED WITH A COMPUTER SCIENTIST FOR THE TECHNOLOGICAL COMPONENTS OF SENSORIUM1 I have worked with Steve Karpik in the past to choreograph a dance routine for 3 NAO robots that danced in a children’s exhibition in China.

Toronto, 2015

94

I love multidisciplinary projects and there is so much strength and beauty between the collaboration of performance and technology. The possibilities are endless. I am excited to see how I can push this innovative relationship further during my career.

95

TECHNICAL PROCESS EEG DATA

In the beginning of the project, I wanted to collect EEG data as input and planned to collaborate with MUSE2. I would like to give thanks to Hesam Masoumi and MUSE2 for supporting projects like these. After a period of research and trial, we decided we were limited by the time we had to dig into the complex data stream that is brainwaves.

HEART RATE DATA Instead, we decided to look into heartbeat data as for our input. After having software compatibility issues with MUSE2, we started to consider other products for the collection of biofeedback.

96

HEART VARIABILITY DATA

I am excited to see what other kinds of biofeedback data I can use for future Sensoriums. In the future, I am excited to come back to brainwaves and transform spaces simply with our brain activity. Imagine, your thoughts are manifested into visual experience.

Sensoriums for institutions will provide people with a space where they can connect, heal and feel safe. These spaces will give them a moment to regain their sensations and re-author their self.

Sensorium777 Daniel has been feeling very lonely for the past few months. These days, he does not want to do anything; he has trouble getting up from bed. He does not feel motivated to do anything, he even has not touched his piano for a month. With a sense of resilience, he decides that he needs to see a therapist. His new therapist tells him that he does not have depression. Instead, he needs to be in spaces where he feels connected to himself and his surroundings. She prescribes Daniel Sensorium777. Sensorium777 is located at a big public theater. As he enters the big theater, he is confused as to why the lights are so dark and he is reminded that he is on his own. Suddenly, holographic white forms start appearing. As Daniel looks at these transformative forms, they seem to shift into words. He reads, “Never give up”. Then to his left white forms say, “Dream Big”. As he continues to walk, he reads ahead of him, “You got this” … Stepping closer and closer to the stage, he passes, “Follow your heart” … He realizes that he is now standing in front of a piano. He goes up, sits down, takes a deep breath, and starts playing. As he starts playing, the whole theater shines with the light of seven bright stars. As Daniel re-discovers his passion for playing under the light of the stars, for a single second, he sees the face of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He stops playing. Little did he know, he was going to meet the love of his life that day.

Synesthetic From the recent meeting May had with her daughter’s middle school teacher, May found out that her daughter, Mia, cannot read. Her teacher, Deniz, told May not to worry and she recommended that they try Sensorium33. May books an appointment for her daughter, Mia, to Sensorium33. Deniz told May that she would assist them during this experience. Before they enter Sensorium33, a headset is given to Mia to put on in order for the Sensorium33 to collect her biofeedback and brain activity. When they enter the space, the walls slowly shape themselves into pages of a novel. When Mia is asked to read, she quietly stands and looks at the walls. Suddenly, many colors appear within the words, surrounding them, outlining them; eventually words fully shift to color. “Oh, her brain is active… She is reading!” says her teacher. After this experience, they understand that Mia is synesthetic rather than illiterate. With the full context now revealed, the mother is very relieved. Her teacher is motivated to accommodate to her needs appropriately and to assign her future Sensoriums that might be helpful to her.
