Seven Simple Tips for Better Living

You may think that you have to make massive change to live a better life, but the truth is that smaller, more sustainable steps actually help improve your life day to-do. Here are seven simple tips that can help you be more productive, feel happier and healthier, and get more out of life.

Review your day the night before

Check for appointments you may have and any items you may need for them. Prioritize and batch your activities. Plan to do your most challenging items first. Getting to-do’s out of your head will help you sleep better and help you wake up with purpose so you can sail through your day.

Learn something new

Whatever your interest, learning something new is not only fun, it’s good for you. Studies show learning forms new pathways in the brain and makes you feel accomplished. So whether you’ve been wanting to learn a language, to make sushi or play guitar, give it a go!

Do something social at least once a week

Being around those special to you gives you energy, improves your mood, promotes a sense of belonging and lowers the risk of dementia. While in-person is best, a quality call or video chat with those far away, especially those with whom you’ve been out of touch, is also good for the soul.

Do a kind deed every day

Doing something nice for others not only benefits that person, it improves your outlook and attitude. It also reduces blood pressure and stress. Look for simple ways to brighten someone’s day: give a compliment, share a smile, open a door and if you have time, volunteer.

Practice gratitude

Whether you keep a journal or simply recount all the things you were grateful for during the day before bed—the warmth of the sun, a coworker who praised your work, a good hair day— Being thankful improves your physical and mental health.

Laugh Daily

Studies show laughter is good medicine—it can improve your immune system and mood, reduce pain and sooth stress. Try to spend at least 15 minutes watching, reading or listening to something that makes you LOL.

Just move

Your body is meant to move. Even light exercise reduces stress, builds strength, improves mood and increases stamina. Build at least 10 minutes of movement into your daily routine whether it’s a walk, simple yoga routine or dancing to your favorite tune.
