GRYPHON GALA anoverwhelming success

The Selwyn House School Gryphon Gala was an unforgettable evening that will pay handsome dividends toward health care and education in Montreal.

The evening raised nearly $1.4 million, which will increase the school’s ability to offer financial assistance for deserving students, while helping save the lives of premature babies at the Jewish General Hospital.

Co-chaired by André Desmarais ’73, and Vince Guzzo ’86, and organized by Selwyn House parent Lisa Smith and a committee of parent volunteers, the October 3 Gala marked the launch of a year-long major capital campaign by Selwyn House that will celebrate athletic achievement and focus on facilities renewal while increasing the school’s endowment to a level that will enable it to move to new heights in pedagogy, athletic facilities, support for the arts, curriculum, professional development for teachers, student activities and student support.

The Gryphon Gala also donated $25,000 to the VIVO Fund, which benefits the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Jewish General. This unit is under the care of Dr. Apostolos Papageorgiou, also a parent of a Selwyn House Old Boy.

The Gala itself was only the first of three days of celebration for the school. On Friday, October 4, the Selwyn House Terry Fox Run took place, followed by a Selwyn House senior football game on the newly renovated Westmount Athletic Grounds. Weekend events also included the 35th Annual Old Boys’ Reunion on Friday evening and the annual
