Message from the President, OBA

BUILDING THE OLD BOYS’ NETWORK

To the Class of 2022 and the entire Old Boys community:

It is with great honour that I serve you as President of the Selwyn House Old Boys’ Association, a group of over 3,200 members spread across 43 countries. Our network is composed of graduates who have pursued careers as doctors, politicians, NHL hockey players, NBA basketball players, artists, writers, community activists and everything in between. Regardless of life path, we are all joined together by the common bonds of Selwyn House and Veritas.

As we re-emerge from a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, the Old Boys’ Association has resumed its full slate of events, including our annual golf, tennis and hockey tournaments, jazz band concerts, chapter reunions, and more. In addition, the Old Boys’ Association Board of Directors has utilized the past 24 months as an opportunity to reassess its goals and reorient itself towards a structure which we believe better represents a broader cross-section of Old Boys. As part of this initiative, we have drafted a new mission statement which captures our value system and raison d'être. Stay tuned for its unveiling in the coming months. I encourage you to sign up to our virtual platform SelwynConnect at www.selwynoldboys.ca, which will provide you with a chance to connect with former classmates and teachers as well as learn more about a wide spectrum of Old Boys. You may find an Old Boy who has attended a post-secondary institution that interests you, or even connect with a member of the community who may help you find a job or internship in your chosen field.

To the Class of 2022: The past two years have been an exercise in discipline and resiliency. You are the first Grade 11 class since 2019 to enjoy a graduation ball weekend, a full school closing ceremony, and the traditional Old Boys’ Induction Dinner. Congratulations are in order. You have persevered and made it. In the words of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, “What a long strange trip it’s been.”
