th ANNUAL OLD BOYS AND FRIENDS’ GOLF TOURNAMENT

One hundred forty-one golfers and 12 dinner guests joined for a spectacular day at the 24th Annual Old Boys & Friends’ Golf Tournament at Kanawaki Golf Course. The tournament could not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors, donors and auction and prize winners who contributed over $77,000 to the event.

Guests arrived to a welcome like never before with baked goods, courtesy of the Parent Volunteer Association, and new contests and activities. Headmaster Michael Downey and Wáhiakatste Diome-Deer (Selwyn’s consultant on the school’s Indigenization Process) welcomed the golfers. SHA Board Chair Mike Avedesian ’88 then introduced the new Celebratory TeeOff featuring golf tournament co-founder William Daly ’52, Selwyn’s 7th headmaster Will Mitchell, and Selwyn’s 9th and current headmaster, Mike Downey. Players then headed out in their carts with Selwyn hats and giveaways to start their round in the new Best Ball format.

At the evening cocktail and dinner, tournament awards were distributed. The event ended with a raffle, silent and live auctions, and a cheque presentation to Headmaster Mike Downey. A net total of $62,236 was raised for the Old Boys’ Endowment Fund, the Rob Wearing Bursary Fund and the Old Boys’ Speaker Series.
