KEEPING SHS FAMILIES CONNECTED

The PVA kicked off the year last fall with record-breaking attendance at Selwyn’s Back-to-School Coffee. It was amazing to see so many new and familiar faces! The PVA hosted the always-popular staff coffee morning in December, with a mobile coffee station and over-the-top treats made by parent volunteers. In February, volunteer parents went all out with an “All You Need is Love” theme for Staff Appreciation Week, starting with a candy-centric Lava Lounge and ending in a surprise flash mob. Throughout the year the PVA held morning walks on Mount Royal, where groups of Selwyn parents (anywhere from three to thirty!) meandered along the trails with complimentary coffee in hand. Highlights included: every time Mr. Downey joined us and going off-piste in the snow! Parent volunteers also helped raise $21,000 for the Nancy Pitfield Scholarship Fund at the Gryphon Sales, and Selwyn’s incredible Class Parents organized more events than ever for the boys (and parents) where many new and lasting connections were made.

Karen Anderson’s remarkable volunteer journey at Selwyn House has come to an end as the last of her three sons graduated this past June. A consummate and dedicated volunteer, she unconditionally gave of her time in every conceivable volunteer role at the school! Karen will be greatly missed and is transferring her role of PVA Chair to the new co-chairs, Laura Osborne and Joyce McCauley.
