Orderly cities in apparent disorder? What code do these models follow?

At the risk of the detour and labyrinthine, the medina of Tlemcen, classified as a protected sector, presents itself as an example of an urban and spatial structure that responds to spatial, social and cultural logics.
This city, whose historical past, rich and authentic, has given rise to numerous works addressing its historical, urban and architectural aspect of its heritage. Nevertheless, studies on the spatial and symbolic structure of signs remain less and general.
Our work aims to study the signs of the medina of Tlemcen, the spatial structure of the city of the pre-colonial era, in order to detect the relationship between the two parameters aiming to give a logic of positioning and knowledge to these various thresholds which orders the urban space of the medina.
The work is divided into three parts. The first part consists in building a state of knowledge on the medinas, the approaches addressed to them and their results. The second part is devoted to the presentation of the case study relating to the medina of Tlemcen, by studying the spatial aspect by syntactic analysis as well as the classification, identification and positioning of signs in order to correlate between the two readings and find a logic for this. The third part concerns the architectural project.
The results and data provided by this research constitute a base and a knowledge document that supports the understanding of the logic of the hierarchy of the urban structure of the medina through the sign in its spatial environment.
