-Fashioning the UnseenLindsay Obermeyer (1966-2020) perfected rendering visible the invisible via her own artistic medium. Her art, heavily influenced by microbial science, is housed in the collections of Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Art & Design New York, Milwaukee Art Museum, several medical foundations, and private collections celebrated worldwide. Her public works included the 2007 “Adjust Your Thermometer” project which unveiled large globes outside of Chicago’s Field Museum and traveling exhibitions in New York, Marseille, Copenhagen, and Jerusalem. The work mingles sophistication and lush materiality in a similar nature to that of artists Nick Cave and Yayoi Kasuma. The commentary her work has created is based not only on science, but also pop art, social, psychological, and sexual topics. Featured in eight art books, countless gallery exhibitions, websites and podcasts, as well as major periodicals and newspapers including Newsweek, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times, Lindsay’s tactile work is as compelling scholarly as it is visibly.
