FORMAL PORTRAITS OF ANTOINE PIERRE SOULARD AND JULIA CERRE (AMERICAN SCHOOL, EARLY 19TH CENTURY) Oil on canvas. Estimate: $500 - $1,500 each Antoine Pierre Soulard was born in 1776 in France. He eventually became the lieutenant of the French Royal Army before escaping execution & landing in Marblehead, Massachusetts. After arriving in the French speaking settlement of St. Louis, Antoine was appointed Kings Surveyor General of upper Louisiana for the Spanish government, and eventually signed the document which turned over the territory to the United States. Antione became the brother-inlaw of August Chouteau via his marriage to Julia Cerre of Kaskaskia county in Illinois, daughter of Gabriel Cerre, one of the regions wealthiest land owners. Julia, playing a prominent role in the development of the Soulard neighborhood, on her death bequeathed two blocks of the city of St. Louis on condition it would remain "in perpetuity" a farmers trading market as it originated in 1779. These same two blocks still serve as the historic Soulard Farmer's Market to this day.

MS. ANNE BRYAN BRODERICK (1944 - 2015) The daughter of Mrs. John Kern Broderick, Jr, was presented to the world as a debutante in the 1963 Veiled Prophet event at the Sunset Country Club. As a member of the VP community, her collection of Veiled Prophet memorabilia spans over a century of the St. Louis based organization.
