Clients rave about our 3D Room Planner; it’s one of the highlights of the Ethan Allen experience. Designers use it to create 2D top-view floor plans along with 3D previews of new designs. If you like a sofa but want a different fabric, they’ll show you more options in just a few taps. Then, once everything is customized, your designer can take you on a 360° digital tour of your new space. They can also send you a link to the tour, so you can share it with family and friends. This technology also gives you the freedom to work remotely and still collaborate as though you’re right there next to each other. It’s a beautiful thing when style, personal service, and flexibility come together as one.

Our leather furniture is crafted from complete hides—no shortcuts like splits, castoffs, bonded pieces, or vinyl matching. It can take as many as seven hides to upholster a leather sectional, and we cut and color-blend each one of them by hand. We tailor the fabric or leather of your choice around cushions filled with CertiPUR-US® certified foams, and around durable frames structured with mortise-and-tenon joinery for extraordinary durability and stability. Cushions are adjusted by hand to ensure perfect shape and positioning. When finished, your seating passes into a brightly lit room for inspection, and the person who inspects it has your order in their hand. We work hard to ensure that every element—every stitch, every decorative feature, like welting and button tufting—is an example of the utmost care that we hand-place on every piece.

In our North American workshops, your upholstery is tailored by hand from fabrics that meet the most rigorous standards in the industry. We test for colorfastness, seam integrity, abrasion, pilling, and more; many of our fabrics meet the same standards as those found in the world’s finest hotels.

When our artisans assemble a wood dresser from kiln-dried lumber, they nest the pins and tails of dovetail joints before gluing each drawer together by hand. They apply your chosen finish to the dresser’s exterior by hand and rub the interior of each drawer with a UV-resistant coating to ensure durability.

In our Beecher Falls, Vermont, sawmill, we bring in logs, debark them, and cut them into squared lengths. What we mill ourselves is supplemented by lumber that isn’t accepted until it’s approved by our certified inspection team in Old Fort, North Carolina. In both places, we dry lumber in our own kilns; we don’t trust that process to anyone else. Hardwoods like maple can dry within a month; oak may require up to a year to become ready to use.
We still make about 75% of our products in our own North American workshops. If you think we’re obsessed with the details, you’re right.

We source wood as close to our workshops as possible; about half comes from the Northeast near our Vermont workshops, with most of the rest coming from the southeastern U.S. nearer to our lumber inspection center in Old Fort. In our Vermont workshops, we use recycled biomass—chips and sawdust leftover from making furniture—to cogenerate electricity for our wood-drying kilns. For the rest, we prioritize power from renewable energy sources. Our craftspeople use low-HAP and low-VOC finishes, helping to keep the air clean from our workshops to your home. When we transport our products, we rely on fuel-efficient technology as much as possible, and we route vehicles carefully to minimize the number of miles they drive.
